Situated on the edge of the wild and beautiful Dartmoor National Park and within easy walking distance of the historic village of Lydford. Surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Devonshire countryside, this lovingly converted 'Shepherdess Hut' boasts all the charm and authenticity of a traditional Shepherd's Hut but with way more space and the added bonus of some real home comforts. Beautifully light and airy, The Shepherdess Hut consists of an open plan living space; a sitting area with wood burner, a small fitted kitchen to one end and a bedroom alcove to the other. Behind the bedroom area you'll find a little bathroom with loo, sink, fitted shower and heated towel rail. The kitchen has a sink, fridge, Belling cooker and all the pots and pans you'll need if you want to self cater. There are some lovely homely touches throughout; Egyptian cotton bedding, fluffy towels, original art on the walls, two large and comfy vintage leather armchairs in front of the fireplace and a little bookcase holding a range of novels, games, local guide books and maps. The village of Lydford is 3min drive or a 15 min walk away (along the footpath, over a little wooden bridge and through a small wood). This historic village (once the capital of Dartmoor), has an ancient Castle, a beautiful church, a fabulous pub (the Castle Inn serving great food, recently voted best pub in Devon!!), and a well stocked deli farm shop. There are numerous walks around the area that are accessible from the Hut, most notably up on the Moor. There are plenty of places to ride (both horses and bikes, Lydford is on the granite way) or indulge in wild swimming in the nearby rivers. And of course the stunning beaches of the Devon and Cornwall coast are only 45 mins to an hour drive away in either direction. The village is also home to the National Trust's most popular outdoor attraction, Lydford Gorge - a spectacular river walk with waterfalls, incredible views and the infamous Devil's Couldron, all on the doorstep.
