Description

Maes y Ceirchdir (which means fields of the oatlands in Welsh) occupies one of finest viewpoints in south west Anglesey with sweeping views taking in Cwningar Newborough Warren and the Menai straits with the whole of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the Llyn Peninsula beyond The space Situated on a quiet green lane, the walks from the door are superb- either down onto the Warren (one of the largest and most important sand dune systems in Britain), through the stunning Forest or on to the incredible Llanddwyn beach. At the top of the green lane is Llys Rhosyr (open to the the public), the excavated former court of the Princes of Wales, buried by a sandstorm in the 14th century. Wondrously transformed from a farmhouse and derelict barns, this is an easy house to enjoy. The kitchen is a joy - it’s the hub of the house and as cosy as toast with vast amounts of kit. The sitting room with a wood-burner will make wild weather days well worth staying in for. On fine days you can loll about on the patio from the sunroom with a glass of wine and a pair of binoculars to gaze at the sea all day. Or this is a fun spot for the BBQ and there are garden corners for all and even a pond for the nature lovers to seek out a frog or two. As for the bedrooms they are airy and sweet, one on the ground floor with spectacular views and four more on the first floor some with ocean views. The bedrooms are split in two sections – a set for each side of the house. There is a bathroom for each side too - both sparkling and sleek. The dining room just off the kitchen, has doors to the garden for the invariably convivial suppers surrounded by birdsong. Bring your bikes and cycle along the narrow country lanes or its only a quarter of a mile to access the miles of flat trails in Newborough Forest – there’s a lockable shed to keep them in when you’re not pedalling. Active families can walk straight from the doorstep to the coastal path; pack up a picnic and make a day of it. Ynys Llanddwyn Island and Newborough Common are beauty spots right on the doorstep. Ynys Llanddwyn Island is most famous for the connection with Santes Dwynwen, the Welsh Patron Saint of Lovers. Also, for a glorious long, sandy beach – and even a swim if you’re feeling brave! On the banks of the Menai Straits just a few minutes’ drive away, you'll find the world famous Halen Mon / Anglesey Sea Salt, Anglesey Sea Zoo and Foel Farm Park. Birdwatchers will love the flocks of seabirds along the Strait. Garden lovers can marvel at the mimosa at Plas Newydd, a National Trust gem. Brothers Liam and Ellis Barrie have relaunched their award-winning Anglesey restaurant under the name Y Marram. Watch out for special food events. Newborough village also has a good pub The White Lion Inn for meals if you don’t feel like cooking. Or further on down the coast is Rhosneigr for more fine food and ales. In Menai Bridge the opposite direction find Dylans, The Freckled Angel and Green Olive for hearty meals. You will need a holiday after all that! Thankfully it will be very quiet, and dark, at night so slumber will be easy after watching the stars.
