Buzet is located in the north of Istria, near the border with Slovenia. Its historic town center from the Middle Ages is situated on a hill above a fertile valley along the longest river in Istria, the Mirna. Today, Buzet is widely known as the town of truffles, as the forests along the Mirna are particularly rich in this wonderful tuber. According to some opinions, the white truffles of Istria are comparable to the white truffles of the famous truffle region of Alba in Italy. In honor of this truffle, the famous Truffle Festival is held every year in September and October. On the second weekend in September, there is a very special attraction in Buzet - a gigantic omelette (also known as fritada or fritaja). Over 2000 eggs and 10 kilos of truffles are cooked in a huge pan. This event marks the official start of the truffle season in Istria.
