Heart Winds House is a unique—but not fancy—site-designed custom country farm house built from about 60% used, recycled and salvaged building materials by the three of us (with lots of help!) over a period of several years. With its extra large windows, the house takes full advantage of its rural setting to “bring the outside in” and provide good views of the natural surroundings and abundant wildlife. The house is intentionally rustic and furnished for casual comfort with an eclectic mix of antiques, vintage pieces and serendipitous thrift store finds. We provide sheets, towels, linens, bath and body supplies and kitchen accoutrements with the goal of making your stay relaxed, easy and enjoyable. If there is something missing or something you need, please don’t hesitate to let us know. With 40 acres of fields, forest and trails to explore on foot, bike or XC skis, and direct access to the Kingdom Trails right from the from on the property, it’s just a 10 minute drive to Burke Mountain Resort for down hill skiing and summer biking fun at the bike park—plus, its central location in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom puts it within 15 - 30 minutes drive of various streams, ponds and lakes, so it’s an ideal spot for the outdoor sports enthusiast or for those looking for rest and relaxation in a natural setting with all the comforts of home and easy access to good restaurants, entertainment venues and shopping. Guest access ENTIRE HOUSE: This is a “whole house rental” on the ground floor and guests will have the entire house to themselves. PLEASE NOTE: While the interior rental space is all on one level of the ground floor of the home, guests will need to have the ability to go up and down a flight of 6 stairs to access the decks and the house. ALL GUESTS HAVE EXCLUSIVE USE OF AND ACCESS TO: a full bathroom with antique clawfoot tub and separate shower; fully equipped country kitchen; the dining nook with a large bay window has seats for 6; cozy living room with wood-burning fireplace; two-story sunroom; laundry room; wraparound front deck; covered back porch with bike storage; all on 40 acres with walking and biking paths that connect directly to the Kingdom Trails system. The house is casually, comfortably and eclectically furnished and all household necessities and amenities are provided. A large screen Smart Television with streaming services is provided in the living room and wi-fi is available throughout the house. Both bedrooms have small screen TVs with BluRay DVD players and there is a sizable collection of DVDs available to choose from. PLEASE NOTE — AIR CONDITIONING: This is northern Vermont and very few homes here are equipped with central Air Conditioning because in the past it really has not been necessary. However, in this past year as temperatures have climbed higher everywhere, we have added window A/Cs in each of the bedrooms and extra fans throughout the house to make it more comfortable. PLEASE NOTE — CABLE TV & INTERNET SERVICE: Cable television service is not available in our area and TV station reception is limited, but we have several streaming services via the internet for the big screen Smart TV in the living room and DVD players with a large DVD library for use on the small screens in each of the bedrooms. In addition, Internet service can be slow at times, however, it will usually stream TV shows, play videos, browse the web and handle email quite well while FaceTiming or Zooming may sometimes display lag. If you need faster internet there is free access high-speed, fiber optic Internet service available at several spots in the village just 5 minutes away. Cell service is generally good for all major carriers. EXTRA NOTE: The big coffee table trunk in the living room is full of games to play and there are books on the shelves to read. BUT PLEASE FO NOT TAKE BOOKS! Other things to note 1) ARTISTS’ STUDIO UNDERNEATH HOUSE The owners maintain an art studio underneath the house. It is accessed from a separate entrance on a completely different level and is blocked and locked off from the rest of the house. There is no noise, no odor and no intrusion into the main house or into the yard from studio contents or activities. The owner may occasionally need to enter the studio between the hours of 9am to 7pm. Every attempt will be made to do this while guests are away, but if the need arises, the owners will text you to let you know you may see someone briefly coming or going from the studio down below. 2) SECURITY SYSTEM The premises are equipped with a security system that is set to AT HOME when we have guests. In this mode the alarm will NOT sound or send alerts. It WILL announce when any of exterior doors are opened and closed, day and night; we find this provides a measure of security for our guests while not requiring the system to be fully “armed”. This system requires no input from our our guests and is unobtrusive. 3) ROAD CONDITIONS Heart Winds House is located on a gravel road in rural Vermont. While it is only 10 minutes from East Burke Village, it is still in a rural location that experiences severe weather including snow, sleet, heavy rain, mud, and downed trees — as well as power outages — and travel to and from the house can present extreme road conditions during severe weather. We maintain a reliable plowing and driveway service and the house itself is well equipped for severe weather and power outages, including back up battery lights and a very efficient wood stove for heating. However, we want all of our guests to be aware that there is a chance they may encounter challenging conditions on the road to and from the property so we urge you to be prepared when packing and servicing your vehicle. 4) GUEST PRIVACY Please be aware that we make every effort to respect your privacy and provide a peaceful experience. However, we maintain the right to enter the premises without notice in the case of an emergency, and in the case of violations of our house rules, to prevent damage and/or ensure safety. Also please note that you may occasionally see service vehicles in the driveway, glimpse the owners entering or leaving the Art Studio below the house, hear the gardeners in the yard or encounter us out working somewhere on the property. Feel free to just ignore us or to approach us if you have any questions or concerns!
