The space The yurt has fabulous outside decking with a covered sunshade area, making this the perfect lazy afternoon spot and, of course, the obligatory barbecue for al fresco dining in style. Inside you’ll be wowed by the stylish and creative plantation vibe, eclectic furniture, Art Deco rugs and gorgeous adornments. The double bed sits in prime position to take full advantage of the fabulous toono window, the yurt’s most important aspect where earth meets light. Wake up after a restful night’s sleep in the opulent bed to the natural light filtering through, perfect. No yurt would be complete without the all-important log-burner, creating a warm and romantic glow on chillier evenings. Outside the yurt you’ll find a beautiful quaintly converted wooden incubation shed, crafted by the owners from old wardrobes and furniture, housing the small but perfectly formed kitchenette with electric hob, combination microwave and plenty of equipment for whipping up a creative meal. Off the kitchen you will find the well-appointed shower-room with WC and basin. The owners also offer Blacksmith courses and experiences in their off-grid teaching smithy. A unique Mongolian round yurt, Whittlers is a magical place with beautiful touches and quirky interiors, showing off the owners’ remarkable talent as a renowned blacksmith and artisan. Whittlers Yurt, once visited, is a place you will want to return to year after year. Other things to note We provide a variety of blacksmithing courses from fun two-hour tasters where you will learn the basics, to two-day knife-making courses, where you will forge your own blade and make your own handle, perfect for an action-filled getaway. We can accommodate groups of 6 people on each of our blacksmith courses. The teaching space has been set up with 6 anvils and 6 fires, leg vices, and all the necessary hand tools and hammers. The fires are fed air from a large set of bellows, lovingly restored to their former 19th-century glory. You will learn to control your forging fire using these traditional bellows, to produce heat in excess of 2000 degrees centigrade, to heat your steel so that it glows bright yellow when it is nice and soft and ready to be forged between the anvil and your hammer. The variety of courses we offer constantly changes throughout the year. We have our own in-house tutors, Bex Simon and Dave Harris, as well as our guest tutors who run their own specialist courses. If you are interested in booking a course during your stay, then we also offer a discount to all of our residents staying with us.
