The dorm is on a Maya ruin, surrounded by rainforest, waterfalls, trails & wildlife. Unlike other jungle lodges, Lower Dover is accessible by bus! Enjoy our rainforest trails, learn about medicinal plants, explore ON-SITE Maya city (in 900 AD = est. pop 10,000), swim in streams surrounding the conservation area & dine from our sustainable farm. Public refrig, DIY & concierge tours, billiards, travel library. Optional family style meals means we eat with our guests. We offer 1-2 hr tours of the Maya ruins & rainforest conservation area. We arrange tours (ATM Cave, Tikal, Cave Tube, Horseback, Canoe, Bird, Zipline) & low budget DIY adventures too. The immediate neighborhood is deep rain forest JUNGLE! Lower Dover's 100 acre lodge has creeks & a river as boundaries. There are unexcavated Maya Ruins just outside your door! The closest neighbors & village food is a 15 minute walk away. You will love the variety of local food offered in our village. Guatemalan, Belizean Creole, Thai & Italian families sell terrific food if you wish to opt out of family dining at Lower Dover. Public bus travel is a bargain at $3usd 1-way to San Ignacio or Belmopan (45 min each way). Taxi is $20 one-way (20 min). BZE airport or Belize City water taxi door-to-door shuttle is approx $60usd per person. Expect overcrowded buses on Saturdays, express buses do not stop in Unitedville & take a taxi if you travel at night.
