Small mother-in-law studio house ideal for a sabbatical or retreat in nature. Surrounded by lazy cows, sugarcane fields, and a beautiful view of Turrialba volcano and valley below. Past guests have appreciated the slow-pace, simplicity, and silence of this retreat home. They alternate days of adventurouse hikes to nearby waterfalls or visits to the local ruins at Guayabo National Park, with stay-in days to relax, rest, read, and drink local coffee. The studio is a one room house with a half wall separating the bed from the rest of the house. There is one queen-sized bed, one couch and one lounge chair inside. Outside, there are two adirondacks and a bench. The kitchen is simple but fully-equipped with a stove, a slow cooker, a blender, coffee maker/grinder, fridge, and a table that can be used for eating or working on. Guests will have access to the whole house and be given a personal set of keys. There is a parking spot dedicated to guests next to the house. Guests will have access to a washing machine. Someone is always near by if you need anything. Here you will have peace and silence and plenty of bird song. The community of San Juan Norte is made up of farmers and small farms... not to mention cows. Though we are just 15 minutes by car or 20 minutes by bus from Turrialba, the immediate surroundings are ideal for walking on dirt roads and contemplating incoming rainstorms. There is bus service to Turrialba (15-20 minutes away) 800 meters from the house (1/2 mile) or to San Jose (2 hours) 1.5 kilometers from the house. The guest house has parking right next to it. Taxi and Uber services are available. Most guests prefer to get around by foot or bus or the occasional taxi. However, for excursions to the volcano or nearby national parks, a car is needed. In this case, it is possible to hire a driver for the day. The Casita is a farm-like experience and Costa Rican country living can include situations that people aren’t used to such as tropical rainstorms, temporary power outages, insects, a loud tractor, etc. However, it’s all temporary and it’s all training for the pura vida life! Our family of 5 and 2 dogs live on the property as well and so we will be able to help you with anything that comes up. Our dogs are well-behaved, but like all dogs, occasionally bark at passing animals.
