Description

We offer you a special little cottage, built nearly a century ago, and carefully and lovingly restored. The cottage is close to the main farm buildings of the farm Tiger's Lair, 18 km southeast of Aranos (only 15km gravel road), a remote town in the southeast of Namibia. Great halfway stop to/from Mata Mata. We promise peace and contentment on a working farm, with sheep, goats, cattle and Arabian horses, miles and miles of beautiful red sand dunes and camel thorn trees typical of the Kalahari. The space The Dorsland Cottage has three rooms, a Dining room, Main bedroom and a Second bedroom. In the Main bedroom you will find a double bed. It also has a private porch with outside seating and an outside open shower. The Second bedroom is next to the dining room and has two single beds. (If needed, we can add an extra single bed to the dining room per request to accommodate five people.) From the Dining room or entrance you will find a small kitchenette. It has all the basics you might need. Small fridge, Little oven, Electric Frying pan, Kettle and Microwave. We love to share some of our farm produce as it is available per season. Eggs, Greens for a salat, milk in some seasons and a small freshly bake bread we share freely. You are welcome to order meat and more bread in advance per message. On the side of the Cottage you will have another porch with a dining table, wood Braai/Grill and a gas stove for more cooking options. We will also supply you with Camel Thorn hard wood from our farm. Guest access Dorsland Cottage is located on the premises of an active Kalahari farm. Guest are welcome to explore the surroundings near the buildings. For those who are more adventurous, you can ask upon arrival and we will show you routes that you can walk. Anything from 10min to 3 hours would be possible. It is very save and a perfect opportunity to be in nature and do some birdwatching. It that is your interest. Still there will be many little gems to find in this creation as you explore. One of the greatest experiences is the silence. No cars, no people, no city-buzz, just one plane passing softly every evening after 5pm daily. just to remind us that there is still a civilisation somewhere beyond the Kalahari horizon. We also have the perfect terrain in the lime-stone hill close to the Cottage for the off-road mountain bikes. The animals have created many tracks to keep you busy for hours if your are traveling with your bicycle. (We are working on getting bicycles to rent in the future, but it is not available yet.) You are welcome message me about a sundowner option. For guests staying a few nights that wants to drive along as we attend to the animals on the farm are welcome to do so. We are proud of and enjoy sharing this beautiful farm with your guest. It has touched our hearts and I'm sure it will be the same for you. Other things to note Please keep in mind that this is a working farm, meaning that there will be farm animals. We are talking about Goats, Sheep, Horses, Cattle, Springbuck and other small game, Rabbits, Chicken (only one small roaster, not close to the Cottage), 5 Cats and two dogs, a Ostrich and from time to time this list may change. The Dogs are not loud or disturbing and are used to guests, but they can be kept in a Kennel if guest would prefer. Please do communicate this with the host. The dogs are used to the kennel and will be taken for long walks after a day in the Kennel. This may sound like a lot going on, but our farm is +/- 4000Ha. You will experience lots of peace and quiet. Beautiful landscapes and a starry sky that dreams are made off. Truly a little piece of Heaven on Earth. Our remote location does cause WiFi to be a challenge. We do have WiFi closer to the main Farmhouse, but not the Cottage itself. We have obtained a Starlink Kit and it will be up and running as soon as Namibia will grant the license. We hope that this will be soon in 2025.
