Rustic Mayab Cottage

Description

This casita is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, an excellent spot for birders or nature lovers, or an answer for those who would like the feel of an authentic Yucatecan town. It is also ideal for a resident artist or writer who is looking for a place for a few weeks away from the city. A cozy tiny home, it mimics the one-room, oval, Maya house. Large beams in the bedroom allow you to hang a hammock. Solid wood windows and doors allow air to pass and to hear the sounds of life. The space Have an authentic, one-of-a-kind experience in Yucatan. A total of 2,000 m2 surrounds your "casita", home to many tropical trees and plants. In the summer there will be the magnificent mamay, guanabana and pitaya fruit. Other times of the year you may be lucky to see papaya. There will usually be lemons, chaya, chilis, oregano and oranges to taste as well. As you approach the property on our street, you will see a "palapa" on your left and a typical Yucatecan "albarrada" fence, which is the piling of stones on top of one another to make a low wall. The "albarrada" encloses the front of the property and when you turn left at the corner, you will see a yellow home with thatch over the windows. This is our main residence. Next, if you continue driving down the unpaved road and pass the green garage door, you will see the "casita" on your left. In May, the glorious "flamboyan" trees look like flames of fire along the left side of the house. Have your driver drop you off at the tall pink wall, or park anywhere under the trees and come in the gate with the access code you have been provided with. Guest access Access to the casita is through a private gate which will be ready on Monday, January 27. Before this date, there is a shared cyclone gate which is primarily used by workers. There is a special Masterlock padlock hanging on the proper gate, and it has 2 keys inside. One key is for opening the gate. The other key will allow you to enter in the front door of the casita. This is the door which is closest to the street. The access code to the special padlock is sent when a reservation is made. The casita has two exterior doors. Therefore, inside the bedroom there will be another key for the door that looks out onto the pool. It is very important to make sure you leave the keys in the padlock when you leave. Please do not take the keys off the property. Other things to note There are a few very important points about staying in the Yucatan: 1. This is still an interesting, typical, Maya village, and we are only 10 to 15 minutes from the north of Merida and 24 minutes from the beach. 2.Many of our older women, with their "huipiles" for daily work, have passed away. You can occasionally see older men sit at the main square wearing their straw hats and "guayaberas" in the early evening. 2. This is a natural small town experience. Weekends and national holidays are often the liveliest days. There are many family-owned stores, where you can buy a single cigarette or an aspirin if it pleases you. You may use a "trici-taxi" to take you from our "casita" to the center of Chablekal (14-min. walk) for 7 to 10 pesos. It is another world for you when you see families out in the park at 10 pm! Fridays are usually nights I like to walk into town to watch people in our remodeled park, buy a snack, watch a local baseball game, or talk to friends. Everyone is very friendly. There are small, informal restaurants to sit and eat tacos, and a few places that take orders for "salbutes" and "panuchos" on the weekends. There is the BEST "pan dulce" here at "La Guadalupana" bakery! 3. There is a separate electric meter for the "casita". You have an average of 15 kWh per day allowance. After 15 kWh, I ask guests to cover the cost for the amount above that. 4. The hammock that is hanging in the living room may be used in the bedroom between the thick pieces of wood, or outside in the "romantic corner" with the pink wall. YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR STAY IN A UNIQUE PLACE
