Rental unit in Perranuthnoe
Description
A cabin annexe by the sea with stunning views across Mounts Bay. Access via the garden & deck steps leads to a timber clad retreat with a double bedroom, cosy sitting room & kitchenette-diner. All three rooms have doors onto the deck & are joined internally via a Jack & Jill shower room. The annexe is attached to the lee our home but you will have the privacy of your own front door & exclusive use of the deck to watch the sunset over the bay. The beach & village amenities are a 5 minute walk. The space Our home Lismore originated as a simple timber clad chalet and was bought by Bridget’s grandfather in the 1940’s. It has housed various family members and has been a beloved holiday retreat for us and many friends over the years. It was named Lismore by Bridget’s Scottish grandmother whose family came from the west coast of Scotland near Port Appin and the isle of Lismore. Maintaining the Cornish-Scottish alliance Bridget married another Scot (Kenny) and they have been extending and repairing the original chalet themselves for the last ten years. You will be staying in the first extension to be completed which has housed our three daughters until this summer when the youngest is flying the nest! Your accommodation sits in the shelter of the main house and will suit a couple looking for a quiet, private, restful base from which to enjoy walks, swimming and exploring the art galleries, food, beautiful scenery and history of the west of the county. The accommodation reflects the beach chalet feel of the original house with timber floors and simple cosy rooms and original artwork. All three rooms have uninterrupted and expansive views of the bay across to Mousehole, Newlyn and Penzance. On a clear day you may even see the low lying Scilly isles away on the horizon. You can also see the castle on St. Michael’s Mount and the church tower and village of Perranuthnoe. Perran sands are just below us and it is 5 minutes walk down to the beach which is great for swimming, surfing and exploring rock pools. The rooms are bathed in the reflected light from the sea and you can enjoy the sunsets from the deck seating. The kitchenette is small but well equipped with fridge, kettle, microwave, toaster, air fryer and double plug in hob for cooking. Please note there is no freezer or full oven. There are also numerous places to eat both in the village and in the locality. Lismore sits on higher ground at the edge of the village and the coast path runs by the garden gate. The village has a beach car park, two great cafes, craft shop, gallery and a good pub with excellent food. There is a Coop (open until 11pm) on the main Helston-Penzance road (6 min drive away) and a Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Lidl supermarkets close to Penzance which is 15 mins drive away. Guest access Lismore is reached through Perranuthnoe village and up a tarmac access road which is a little steep and narrow in places. We are the last house on the lane and have ample parking and turning space beside our garden gate. Your accommodation is accessed by a short walk through the sloped garden and then via steps onto the deck in front of your rooms. Inside it is all on one level. You will have exclusive use of the deck during your stay and there is plenty of outside seating to enjoy the view. In our neighbours field below Lismore there are ducks, chickens and a couple of donkeys. You can also see their dovecot and enjoy the doves flying in the morning. You will be able to come and go as you please as your rooms can be accessed without going through the house and can be locked from the deck. You are not overlooked but noise does travel so we would ask that guests respect our nice neighbours and honour the peace and beauty of this place during their stay. There are sensor lights that will guide you back if you are out after dark and there is a key safe you can use if you prefer to leave the key on-site when you are out. Please note that there is no washing machine in your accommodation but we are happy to do a wash in our machine should you need it during a longer stay. You are also welcome to use our iron and ironing board if required. There is a clothes line in the garden for drying wet swimming gear. Other things to note We respectfully request that guests do not smoke or vape either in the rooms or on the deck. The nearest train station to us is Penzance. Bus transport right into the village is infrequent ( the 39a from Penzance bus station stops at the Pub in the village). If you are arriving by train we are happy to collect you from the train station by prior arrangement but it may be important to say that exploring this area without a car is not for the faint hearted as public transport is definitely rural! However if your plan is to enjoy walking the coast path you will be able to do plenty of that easily from our door. If you are cyclists, surfers or kayakers we have room to safely park bikes, surfboards and kayaks beside the deck.
