Description
The Stable House, a Victorian Stables was built in 1888 and converted in 1970 to an unique family home. It sits in over 20 acres of grass and woodland. Clock house is a spacious 4 bedroom 2 bathroom house with large communal areas, high ceilings, huge kitchen including a 4 oven Aga for cooking. Clock house has had multiple refurbishments over the years and is clean and tidy but one might describe it as a well lived in family home. The space You enter Clock House through a door on the east side of the Stable House, into a cloakroom area with hooks for your coats. There is a swing door into the dining room with a large table and chairs and a sofa too. This is open plan into a large kitchen with a central unit and a 4 door Aga. There are instructions on how to use this. Please note that it is always on which keeps the area lovely and warm and makes last minute cooking a delight! The cupboards are well equipped with everything you should need. However if you think of something that would be useful, feel free to ask. From the kitchen you walk into a large comfortable sitting room with sofas and chairs and a small smart TV. There is wifi throughout the house with Deco boosters. There is a selection of toys and games but do ask if you’d like to borrow any large jigsaws if the weather isn’t encouraging you to go outside. Upstairs there are four bedrooms with two family bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and two have king size beds. One of the king bedrooms also has a single bed. There is a travel cot - please bring your own bedding for the cot. All bed linen and towels are provided. Each bathroom has a toilet, bath and separate shower. There is a utility room upstairs with a washing machine, ironing board and iron along with clothes horses to dry or air your clothes. This is the part of the Stable House where we most recently lived with our children and you will enjoy the decorations. There is the Wind in the willows room (king and single bed) with a beautiful painting on the in built cupboards and clouds on the ceiling; next door is Pooh Corner (double) with the Winnie the Pooh decorated wardrobe and chest of drawers. These share a family bathroom with bath and separate walk in shower. The other two rooms are the Owl & Pussycat room (king) and the Jeremy Fisher room (double) which share another family bathroom also with a bath and walk in shower. Enjoy! Guest access The Stable House is set in 20 acres of parkland, paddocks and woodland. Park House is part of the west wing of The Stable House which was renovated in 2017. All guests have access over most of the grounds which is marked on maps supplied in the Information Folder. Park House does also have its own private garden. There are plenty of places to sit both inside and out to admire the countryside and the stunning collection of mature trees. There is a Victorian walled garden on the property within the woodland and you might be lucky enough to meet the occasional resident pigs! Please do not enter the old greenhouse as you will see the roof is not safe at the moment due to the winter winds. If you enjoy animals, there are plenty around - cattle in the farmers fields and our own entertaining Alpacas; three boys named Tinker, Ginger and Mattvei. There is also a very sociable donkey called Stanley Please do not go in the fields with the animals and talk to us about who you can feed and what they like. A hint - keep your apple cores and carrot peelings! We have cats and dogs as well; the dogs should only be out when with us but the cats may well come and say hello, particularly the black fluffy one called Hendricks; he will probably try to tell you that he is never fed and has nowhere to sleep - do not believe him! He and his older friend, Rio (black and white) have very comfortable quarters in the house with regular meals provided! Do feel free to give them a fuss. Please respect the few places where there are Private signs; mainly the garden and field area in front of the conservatory on the east side of The Stable House which is where we live. Please take care around the wood and walled kitchen garden. Do not go inside the old greenhouses but enjoy sheltering in the old barns outside the garden if it rains. There are also places inside the house, to sit with your laptop and work, if you must! In the Stableyard, you will see the newly restored and converted Stable Barn where you can find our Coffee Club. Please check with us whether this will be open during your stay. The family still lives in another part of the main house and we do ask that you respect the areas marked private. Other things to note We run a Coffee Club out of The Stable Barn, in the old stable-yard, serving Barista coffee (including decaf) and various teas, and home made cakes and biscuits (with a gluten free option!). We’re open to guests and friends. We ask for a donation to cover the cost of the coffee etc plus a bit extra which goes to help support the work of the Aesso Orphanage in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Ask us about our visits there. Check with us when this is open. The Stable House is known as a good place to retreat, rest, relax and be restored. The Stable House and Clock House are next door to The Kilworth House Hotel and Theatre - a stunning 1880 country house hotel, and 2007 built out-door seasonal theatre; a lovely place to walk over for a coffee or a meal, or even a show at the right time of year. We also host other properties which are all situated in the same 20 acres of land; they can be booked together to host a larger group but we would ask no parties please and please be considerate to other residents. The property is part of our family home so we do ask that guests are respectful of our space and look after the house and respect the outside spaces marked Private. Thank you!
