Description

The Old Jetty Joint welcomes you with a cosy 1970's shack vibe. This classic Tasmanian shack has been thoughtfully renovated to take full advantage of its spectacular location – perched overlooking Pirates Bay, only 150m from the beach. With one of Tasmania’s most stunning bays just across the road, your gaze will skip endlessly between the swell lines and the dramatic coastline beyond. Pack your surfboard or whittle the hours away beachcombing the pristine white sands. @theoldjettyjoint The space Simple and tasteful, The Old Jetty Joint presents a spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen. Features include a leather sofa, wood fire, spectacular views and gloriously aged timber floorboards. Sun drenched mornings are the perfect start to sleepy days. A slower way of life happens here. With a sweeping view across the bay, the kitchen is kitted out with everything you need to fuel your appetite for exploration. An electric cooktop and oven, plus microwave, make it easy to cook up a storm. Coffee is aways at hand, with both a Breville coffee machine and Nespresso pod option handy. Perfect for couples and family getaways, The Old Jetty Joint offers 3 bedrooms that can sleep 5 guests comfortably. Choose from the master with a queen bed, second bedroom with a dreamy double, and a third bedroom tucked at the rear offering 2 singles. Whatever your choice, you’ll be gently lulled to sleep by the sound of the surf. Take your pick of generous outdoor spaces. If the elements blow in, tuck yourself away in the covered front verandah, and watch the wrath of the mighty ocean unfurl. The spoils of the private rear outdoor entertaining area include a barbeque and large timber outdoor table, to while away the afternoon sunshine. Perhaps you’ll spend an evening swapping stories around the firepit – the starlight here is sensational. Guest access Guests will have full access to the property and house, however the garage's underneath the house will be locked. Other things to note The Old Jetty Joint overlooks the site of some of Tasmania’s most fascinating history. In the mid 1800s, the narrow land bridge at Eaglehawk Neck made escape from Port Arthur virtually impossible. To deter escapees even further, a guardhouse, multiple sentry boxes, a line of guard dogs and a jetty that once stretched 300 metres into the bay were added. Perch yourself on the deck of The Old Jetty Joint and consider the desperate plight of convicts some 200 years ago. If you’re moved to explore further, walking tracks at your doorstep will take you straight to where history prevails. An easy wander down to Tessellated Pavement is a must do during your stay. This natural rock platform is one of Tassie’s most stunning geological wonders. Have your camera at the ready. Just an hour from central Hobart, The Old Jetty Joint makes an ideal base to explore the stunning Tasman Peninsula. An outdoor enthusiasts delight, ‘The Peninsula’ rewards with bushwalks and natural features at every turn. Think towering sea cliffs, beautiful beaches, tall forests and an abundance of wildlife. Tasman National Park is a wild, yet accessible, expanse of tall forest bounded by stunning coastline. Don’t miss Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, the Blowhole and Remarkable Cave. Cape Hauy and Cape Raoul are renowned day walks well worth the effort, whilst Shipsterns Bluff, the famous big wave, draws surfers from around the world. Port Arthur is within an easy 25 minute drive and makes a memorable day trip. Check the website for current tour offerings – only the brave will book a ghost tour and linger after dark! There are very limited facilities at Eaglehawk Neck itself, hence we recommend you stock up on supplies for your stay when passing through Sorell or at a small convenience store in Murdunna. Eaglehawk Neck itself is simply a small collection of shacks dotted around Pirates Bay. However, you will find an excellent coffee van a few minutes up the hill, and a good meal at The Lufra Hotel just down the road – an excellent spot for a glass of local wine and a fresh seafood feed. Please note - The Old Jetty Joint has a smart television which you are most welcome to use during your stay, however due to our location in Eaglehawk Neck, there are very limited free to air stations/signal.
