The Old School House Retreat
The Old School House Retreat
Description
The Old School House Retreat is a beautiful and unique self-contained annexe to our home which is the former Victorian village school house in Tibberton. With its own garden room and use of the gardens and summer house, it offers opportunities to relax, unwind and revel in this idyllic, rural setting, and yet, is only 25 mins away from Cheltenham Racecourse! From the doorstep, you and your dog can enjoy many picturesque village walks with panoramic views of iconic landmarks in the distance. The space Your accommodation is an entire self-contained annexe in the east part of a larger Grade II listed Victorian former village school. The accommodation comprises a double bedroom, en-suite, fully fitted kitchen/dining area, and sitting room on the mezzanine level with a large screen smart TV. It also boasts a stunning garden room for your use and has its own level entrance with plenty of parking. The Old School House Retreat is a historic building with two large stone tracery windows to the north and south. These, along with a cathedral vaulted ceiling, gives a great sense of space and light. There's another east facing window and two roof lights, so the entire living areas are drenched in light. You enter from the driveway into the garden room, a beautiful Victorian style conservatory which complements the building, and offers a huge space to use as you wish. In here, you'll find loungers for relaxing and enjoying the peaceful environment in the winter or spring sunshine . From here, you enter your accommodation through the large original school door to the open plan kitchen and dining area. There is an open staircase leading to the mezzanine level with a galleried balcony. At the rear of the downstairs area is the bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and chest of drawers, and a luxurious, modern en-suite. You'll find everything you need in here for home-from-home comfort and hotel luxury. Upstairs is the sitting room with triple aspect views across the gardens, farm land and neighbouring field. There's a 52" smart TV for a fabulous film night experience, and an array of books and jigsaw puzzles for you to use during your stay. There is wifi throughout and the heating and hot water will be pre-set and can be controlled via a portable Hive controller. Your dog is welcome with open arms and we provide a dog bed which can be lined with your dog's favourite blanket from home. There are food/water bowls, a towel and blanket, and outside there is a tap (a warm one for winter!) where you can wash your dog/wellies after muddy walks. As dog owners, we have all the paraphernalia so don't worry if you forget anything. We just ask that you don't leave your dog alone in the accommodation at any time or allow them on the furniture. Outside, the house is surrounded by mature gardens and available for your use. There is a summer house, sun loungers and double swing bed to enjoy in the summer months. In the evenings, you can sit around the fire pit or BBQ using the charcoal kettle BBQ. The garden is the perfect place to while away a summer's day. Guest access The Old School House Retreat is a private apartment and guests will have sole use of the accommodation. From time to time, the gardeners may be working in another part of the garden, but the garden is large enough to be able to enjoy your own space. Other things to note We can provide local items at your request such as local artisan bread, cakes, Gloucester sausages etc from our local suppliers. The lanes around Tibberton and the neighbouring villages are perfect for cycling. You may bring bikes with you which can be stored undercover in our car port. Or you can use our bikes which are fairly new and serviced and are perfect for exploring the area along the lanes. For mountain biking in the Forest of Dean, we suggest hiring bikes at Cannop Cycle Centre as these are designed for the off-road tracks of the forest. There is an abundance of activities and things to see and do in this beautiful area of the country, from visiting picturesque market towns and Gloucester's historic docks and cathedral, to hiking, kayaking and paddle boarding in the Wye Valley. Neighbouring Cheltenham offers a whole host of unique experiences with its renowned festivals, the races and Michelin starred restaurants. Beyond Cheltenham, you can explore the Cotswolds for the day or head north towards Stratford for a cultural day out or a breathtaking walk along the ridge of the Malvern Hills. A visit to Tibberton wouldn't be complete without a visit to our spectacular ancient Forest of Dean just 20 minutes' drive away, where you can revel in nature and discover some very talented people with interesting pursuits just waiting for you to try. All details of attractions and facilities in the area can be found in the guest file in your accommodation.
