Creative souls love my marvelous studio retreat, a delightful space that features tall ceilings and an open design--giving it a loft feel with an expansive view of a picturesque barn, pasture, and wooded hills. This amazing, heated, spacious country getaway has no plumbing— it's just a few steps across the yard to the main house guest bathroom. Come create, relax, and renew here! Well-behaved dogs included in your online reservation, must be leashed when outside, and kenneled in your absence. The studio is a high-ceiling, airy building nestled under huge old walnut and oak trees. It’s filled with natural light during the day, and cozy indirect lighting after dark. There are 1 queen and one twin bed in the space. Fun and funky Boho-style print fabric panels, wool rugs and casual furniture define the space. Come hang out and relax, do art, read, nap, roll out a yoga mat, practice your piano skills, or simply enjoy the view and the birds at the feeder! Kitchenette, books, board games and electric piano available for your enjoyment! You won't hear much traffic noise here. It's blissfully peaceful! I provide plenty of fresh well water (please don’t bring plastic water bottles) fresh-ground coffee and tea, a coffeemaker, mini-fridge, toaster, microwave, dishes, cups, and flatware. Let me know if you want to cook in my main house kitchen or use the grill on the deck. The studio has under-floor radiant heat. NO RUNNING WATER, so guests come to the house (a 10-second walk) for easy 24-hour access to the dedicated guest bathroom & shower. The studio has a handy-dandy “Luggable Loo" portable toilet if you're too sleepy to get to the house! Please, no candles or incense in the studio. Firearms are not allowed on the property. Entire studio with small deck; dedicated guest bathroom in my adjacent home (two cats live in the house)-- large yard and prairie trails, fire pit. The studio has a basic kitchenette, but you can cook a meal in my home's well-appointed kitchen or use the grill on the deck--just ask! I'm here to guide you and answer questions. I'll be happy to meet you and show you around! I'm gregarious, but I’ll also stay out of your way. Bring food and snacks if you wish! Head to charming Mt. Horeb for many good dining options. This is the Driftless (unglaciated) part of Wisconsin, with scenic rolling hills and farmland, and pastures dotted with cows. My property is a 3-acre parcel of mostly restored prairie and large oak and walnut trees. The 1860's stone house (my residence) has been lovingly restored since my family purchased it in 1967. The studio was built in 2002, with bucolic views of the adjacent horse pasture, wooded hills, and my neighbor's historic farm. There is much to see and do in the area! Charming Mt. Horeb is a 10-minute drive (great coffee, food, hard cider, wine and beer, and plenty of shops). For beer fans, New Glarus Brewery and Wisconsin Brewing Company are 20 minutes away. Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin and American Players Theater (APT) and the Wisconsin River are at nearby Spring Green. State and county parks abound, bike trails, swimming holes, skiing, and lots of rivers for paddling. And fabulous Madison is an easy 30-minute drive. You will need a car. There is no public transportation in the area. All-season or snow tires in winter make things much easier! I am 30 minutes from downtown Madison. I like to greet you when you arrive, but self check-in is easy if I'm not home. There is about a 40 yd. walk from the parking area where you will load and unload your car. You will need your phone’s flashlight. Please read directions to the property carefully. I live on a dead end road, but I like to minimize disturbance to my neighbors whenever possible. My driveway is marked by a big red mailbox and a small sign "CHENEY 2055." Turn left before the sign and head down my (rather steep) driveway to the parking area. If you play piano, there is a nice electric one in the studio! The kitchenette is equipped with a coffeemaker, microwave, toaster, and mini-fridge. It’s possible to use my main house kitchen or outdoor grill to prepare a meal--just let me know in advance! Snow days: please be prepared to be snowed in until the driveway is plowed (mid-morning) if there is 2” or more of snowfall during your stay.
