Description
This cozy coastal cottage is special, and as soon as you arrive you’ll start to understand. Ours is the last house on a private road which is abutted by conservation land. It feels worlds away from civilization, yet it’s only a few minutes to the ocean and a few more to the charming town of Blue Hill. If you’re seeking an authentic truly Maine experience on your getaway- to be immersed in nature and serene wilderness, but also want the comforts of home- you’ve come to the right place. The space First built in the late 1800s, you’ll notice some additions and updates to this old workers cottage that make it comfortable and bright. The house is perched at the top of a hill that has several lush fields, surrounded by mixed wood forest that is teeming with wildlife. Only 4 other homes are on the quiet gravel road and ours is the last one. Said road then turns into a beautiful trail meandering through conservation land and over streams. The house itself is light filled and airy with plenty of places to relax. There are 3 bedrooms- 2 upstairs and a small one right off the main entry hall. The kitchen is open and well equipped with supplies. Please note there is no working oven, only the electric burners listed in the amenities, and that the wood stove also is not in use. We have a great fire pit and a charcoal grill to make up for those! As with all old farmhouses in New England ours has quirks- this rental may not be for the folks that panic if the water takes a few minutes to warm up and get skittish around insect visitors- but for most people wanting to visit Maine it is a dream come true. The sunroom heats up during the day but is the perfect place to play games or read in the evening. Eating meals outside looking out over the field of wildflowers is always a good idea. There are 3 sitting rooms so you’ll have plenty of space to veg out if you’re traveling as a group. You’re situated within a quick drive to many trails and dozens of outstanding restaurants as well as Mt Desert Island. As every visitor tells us, the hardest part is leaving! Guest access Please don’t enter the sheds as a couple of them aren’t structurally sound. Same goes for the basement. There’s one locked door on the second floor and that is our private space for when we’re staying over. The rest of the house is all yours! Other things to note We have an agreement with our family that we will not accept a booking from a guest with less than 3 positive reviews on their account with their name being in the review. Sorry for the inconvenience!
