Description
Take in all that Waco has to offer as you delight in the old world charm of our beautiful historic 1910 home. Only a block from the river & located just a mile from downtown. 1.5 miles to Magnolia and Baylor’s campus. We are a straight shot through downtown and right to Baylor. So easy! We have 10+ beds, so room for everyone! We can accommodate up to 10 single beds in addition to 2 queens. We can park 6-8 cars with room nearby for additional. City of Waco (14p) License #STR0000653-08-2020 The space Please note this house is well over 100 yrs old and we welcome all ages, however, the house is not child proofed and there are steps and stairs throughout the house. There are stairs and steps inside the house as well as outside. We keep our cleaning supplies in the house as well. In different seasons, you may find doors and cabinets that don’t line up perfectly as the house shifts in dry and wet seasons. You are sure to see cracks even in the newly repaired areas even though we are constantly making improvements. The one tub in the house is the original claw foot and very steep to get into. Please use caution getting in and out of the tub. We have two other walk in showers to give everyone options. The house has lots of character and personality. A bit quirky most would say. When you enter through the back door you enter into what we call the Bunker Room. This is a large family room with casual seating for 10+ and was an add on in the mid 1950's. The room is solid concrete with very thick walls and high small windows. It was built after the 1953 tornado that damaged so many buildings in downtown Waco. The Bluebird didn't sustain much damage other than broken windows but the then owners built this back room as a safe place. There has never been another storm like the 1953 storms that damaged so many areas of the country, not just Waco. The city sounds the emergency sirens every first Friday at 10:00am and you are sure to hear them from our home as we are so close to downtown. You may also hear and feel SpaceX on a regular basis. Some days the windows even rattle! This house was once used as the offices for the Swedish and Norwegian Heritage Society. The family who became Waco’s first Swedish immigrants, established this home as a City of Waco Historical Landmark, their 1800's homestead still stands today just a few doors down. We have very strict rules for NO SMOKING AND ONLY REGISTERED GUEST are allowed to stay overnight. If you plan on extra guest visiting please speak to us first for approval. Otherwise your stay may be cancelled (even mid stay). We reserve the right to verify guest numbers by observance of check ins via exterior cameras if we are not able to meet you personally at check in. Cameras are located at the front and rear exterior doors, side of the house and on the back shed/driveway area. If smoking is detected on the property a minimum of $500 will be charged. We are happy to host small events, we just ask you request permission prior to any event. Now the fun part...describing the house: Downstairs, as you enter the door you will find a unique space; we turned a fully concrete "bunker" room into a large gathering area with Waco's largest couch (able to seat up to ten people) and a 62" smart tv. There is a small full bathroom attached to this room. Additional bedding can be set up on the large floor space here for larger groups. The laundry room with a full size washer and dryer is attached to the family room, and is available for our guest. A step up to a short hallway leads into the kitchen and foyer. The kitchen is fully equipped, and has concrete countertops and floating shelves done by Fixer Upper's very own, Shorty. We decided to leave the original beadboard walls exposed in here because of their beautiful rustic colors and authentic feel. Between the kitchen and the dining room is a bar area with seating for six. The dining room is open to the kitchen and has a dining table which seats up to eight. The original fireplace with its forest green, original glass tiles, as well as the tall, unfinished shiplap ceilings bring a homey feel to the room which is a perfect gathering place. Through a set of double pocket doors is the parlor. This is a formal, more intimate living area at the front of the house which features another fireplace that shares a chimney with the dining room's fireplace. (non working today but was once the main source of heat in the house) In this room is a large antique couch and an antique Edwardian era pump organ, which help to give the room an authentic vintage and warm feel. Many guest use this room as an additional bedroom. The two large pocket doors completely close the area off to the rest of the house. We can set up two twin beds upon request at least one week prior to arrival. Another large pocket door leads from the parlor to the foyer. Here, the front door leads out onto the front porch which boasts two custom porch swings. From the foyer, you can go up the prominent stair case or enter the downstairs main bedroom. The main bedroom features a queen size bed, dresser, and a small closet. Three tall windows provide natural light if wanted, but blackout curtains are there to help you sleep in. Attached to the master bedroom is a small sitting room, which can be used as a fifth bedroom with two portable single beds. Please let us know prior to check in if you will need either the two single beds or a queen air mattress. We do not always store these in the house, so we must know the week prior to arrival. The main bedroom's bathroom is attached to the sitting room, features our original antique clawfoot tub with added shower fixtures. There is a double sink vanity, created by Shorty out of an antique dresser. There is also a makeup bar along the wall with multiple outlets which acts as the perfect station for multiple ladies to get ready. It is important to note that there are several areas of steps throughout the house. Both the sitting room and the hallway have a couple of steps down into the large family room. There is a large stairway to the three bedrooms upstairs. ***Note the original claw foot tub is steep and there are no grab bars. The original finish shows the true age of this beauty but we added new hardware to make this tub also a shower. There are two other walk in showers for those who may find the tub too steep. Upstairs, each bedroom is themed with decades gone by. The 20s bedroom features an Art Deco style, with books, catalogues and other unique artifacts from the roaring 20s. There are 3 twin beds with a portable single bed that stays folded away. The 30s/40s room is adorned by vintage photographs, advertisements, an antique radio, and even a 40s Girl Scout dress. This room has one queen bed and a long window seat. The 50s bedroom is the largest room in the house with four individual twin beds. A 5th twin can be added with advance notice. Guest access You will be able to access the entire property. The only area that is restricted is the metal shed in the backyard, which we use for storage and remains locked at all times. You will park and enter through the BACK DOOR via the back alley way so make sure to read the check in directions carefully and share with everyone. No parking in front of the house. Access code for smart lock is for the back door. Don’t forget...NO smoking. :) Other things to note We are only a block from the Brazos River. Please make sure to keep the doors shut in order to minimize flying insects. The occasional raccoon can be spotted hanging out and eating our pecans in the winter months on the back deck. The city does not allow street parking so make sure to enter through the back. There’s plenty of parking in the rear. ***Please note that the main downstairs bath is equipped with a shower in the original claw foot tub. The tub is steep and much higher than today's tubs, so please use caution. We do have a second bathroom downstairs with a walk in shower as well as another walk in shower upstairs. We are not a child proof home. We are a no smoking property. Absolutely no smoking or vaping.
