The house is private, and no one else shares any space there. Other things to note Airbnb, Google, and Waze provide some incorrect information about this area in every listing. 1. There are NO national parks in Monteverde. Every park is privately owned, and we are not even close to national parks. 2. The Arenal is approximately four hours from the listing, not one hour away, as Airbnb states. 3. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve is not a National Park, and as of December 8th, this park will no longer offer a Day pass. The guides will not provide guiding services there either because the entire new model the park uses limits every visitor to a specific trail and no more, and within a limited time frame that is not enough. Each trail will be $29 per person, and there are only three you can do within a limited time: one hour, 1.5 hours, or 2.5 hours. There are other cloud forests that guests can visit. If you need more information, please don't hesitate to ask. 4. We are located on the top of the mountain range; do not bring shorts and sandals to wear in this area. You need closed-toe shoes, long pants, a light jacket, and a poncho. 5. Time and distance provided by Google and Waze do not consider the road conditions or the traffic in some sections of the routes. 6. The Monte Verde County has seven communities. Monteverde and Cerro Plano are the only two communities that share a cloud forest. Santa Elena, Los Llanos, La Lindora, and Cañitas are communities at a lower elevation. San Luis is the community to the NE with the lowest elevation. Santa Elena is the only community with a small half-block town. All the other six communities do not have a city. However, some, like Cerro Plano and Monteverde, have a small area considered their center. Many nature-loving travelers are aware of the wildlife, but other visitors come here and have no clue, and then they complain. 1. Every house in this country has bugs because we live in the tropics. Bugs are attracted to lights, which can be a bad combination if visitors leave doors open and lights on. 2. We avoid using chemicals that harm wildlife, including insect repellents. Please use an environmentally friendly bug spray and refrain from spraying it in the forest. 3. Depending on the season, three bugs may show up without warning and in large numbers. Queens and males of leaf-cutter ants take over roads and forests during the wet season and remain for a few days. Thousands fly all over in search of a new nest or to mate, but there is no schedule for that. Army ants take over entire buildings for a few hours, cleaning the place of any critters or creatures that may be inside. These carnivorous ants travel in thousands and will kill anything in their path. The only option we have is to leave the house for a few hours. Two tiny species of lawn shrimps appear out of nowhere during the wet season. They love the light and are small enough to come through screen doors. They are harmless and will be dead by morning. They typically come out in the light and always manage to get inside every house in Monteverde and Cerro Plano. 4. Many other animals may enter the house if the doors are open. Feeding wildlife is illegal, so please keep the doors closed. If you do open them, please be present to ensure the wildlife does not enter to steal food or cause damage. Coatis and White-faced monkeys will not mind your presence and may come in. 5. Communication is essential. Please let your host know right away if you encounter any issues. The host, a local wildlife expert, guide, and professor, will reply during the evenings after work. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions; we will get back to you as soon as possible. 6. Monteverde is not a city, and it is not close to one. That is why we live here. We are far from civilization, and appliances and electrical devices are expensive. We want you to feel at home, but you are not home. Please be careful with all electrical devices and unplug them during electrical storms. Thank you. 7. Plan all your tours before your trip. That way, you will be sure there is availability for the activities you chose. 8. Please take your shoes off when you enter the house. Keeping shoes by the entryway is a local tradition because we know how difficult it is to clean floors and mats during the long wet season. 9. Don't leave the shoes outside. Please check your shoes before you put them on. 10. Help us keep the house clean, and don't use the expensive white towels to clean a mess or as rugs. 11. Do not eat in the bedrooms. A large, expensive table is available for dining. Thank you
