Description

The traditional log cabin is located on 25 acres of mostly wooded terrain in the scenic rural countryside of Wolfsville, Maryland, less than an hour and a half from D.C./Baltimore. The hosts live on the property, but the cabin is situated where it feels very private and you do not see the hosts house from the cabin. The cabin faces the woods and there is a private trail down to the creek. Take a break from everyday life, and escape to this unique and quiet retreat in the Catoctin Mountains. The space The first floor of the cabin is an open floor plan with living room, dining room, fully furnished kitchen, desk and entrance to the front and back deck. The back deck has a gas grill(with utensils) and sitting area. The covered front porch is a great spot to sit and listen to the rain or watch wildlife. The second floor has two bedrooms and full bathroom. The master is a large room with a queen poster bed, couch and closet. There is a small deck with bistro table, perfect for an evening cocktail watching the fireflies. The smaller bedroom has a full size bed. Bed linens are percale cotton and depending on the weather, topped with either a cotton quilt or linen/cotton down duvets. The basement is the entertainment hub with a foosball table, games, puzzles and Roku TV(guests can use their personal login for other streaming apps). Sleeping accommodations for over 4 guests are available on the pull out full size couch and rollaway twin bed. The washer and dryer are located in the additional bathroom located in the basement. Enjoy the firepit out front or walk down the hill to the creek. There is almost zero light pollution (if you turn off the exterior lights) at night so stargazing is incredible. Kitchen: The kitchen has an electric range/oven, refrigerator, microwave, Ninja blender, toaster oven, toaster, small crock-pot and coffee maker. Utensils, pots/pans, baking pans, glasses and dishes: it has everything you need for whipping up a meal. Coffee is provided and you can choose between a Keurig (reusable pods) or a french press. Pantry is stocked with basic spices and olive oil. There is no dishwasher but soap, sponge, towels and drying rack are provided. Bathroom: The main bathroom has a tub shower, sink and a toilet. Cotton towels, paraben free shampoo/conditioner, homemade soap and other essentials are provided. Cleaning supplies: Dishwashing soap, garbage bags, household cleaner, paper towels and vacuum are provided Guest access You have access to the entire house. The nearby garage with the green roof is used by the owners. You are welcome to explore around the property and if you want to meet/feed the cows or chickens, just ask. Don't be alarmed if you see chickens roaming or a yellow tabby cat, Squeeky, who tends to make himself at home when humans are around(you can also feel free to shoo him away) Other things to note ***PLEASE read all the information as it provides a detailed overview of the cabin and area*** Internet/Cell Phones/TV: Wi-Fi is available and fast enough to stream video. Utilize the Roku TV in the basement or put it all away and enjoy an evening under the stars, cozy up with a book or bring out the board games. There is NO cell reception so your cell phone requires Wi-Fi calling. Here's how to connect: -First connect to Wi-Fi -Go to your phone's settings -Select Cellular -Turn "on" Wi-Fi calling Also, we suggest downloading a local map prior to venturing on your getaway as many of the country roads do not have cell reception. Winter Bookings-Snow: AWD is highly recommended due to the hilly nature of the property and the roads leading to the cabin. The roads are plowed quite regularly, and we plow the driveway, but during snow storms or continuous snowing, please note that the cabin is not directly accessible by public serviced roads. Therefore, there may be a delay in plowing service depending on the weather. Accessibility: There will be a short distance to walk from your car to the cabin. The terrain can be uneven (or completely covered in snow!). Although you are welcome to bring kiddos, the cabin is not child proofed. Uber/Food Delivery: Although possible, it would be very expensive to get here using Uber. Having a car is necessary. Restaurants do not deliver to our house. Food & Drink: You will need to bring in your groceries. Access to the nearest full service grocery store is in Smithsburg. There is a small store in Myersville and the gas station down the road has a few essentials. For those not from Maryland, large grocery stores do not sell liquor. But…you are lucky to have a great local store, Catoctin Furnace Liquors, up the road. They have an amazing beer selection! Rather have breakfast delivered? Please contact the host if you are interested in having any meals provided. Smoking: There is no smoking on the premises. Water/Septic: The water for the cottage comes directly from the mountain well. Drinking the tap water is perfectly okay-we have it tested annually and frequently change the water filter. Please do not put any food debris down the sink or anything other than toilet paper in the toilet as we are on a septic system. Heating/Cooling: The main floor has a thermostat for the electric baseboard heaters. Upstairs, you can manually adjust the baseboard heaters in each room. The wood stove in the basement is not for use. When the weather gets warm, window AC units are in each bedroom and the living room. A portable fan is available in the closet. Animals/Insects: You are welcome to venture to the creek and through the woods, but please be respectful to leave no trace. It's a joy to see all the wildlife(such as birds, chipmunks, turkey, deer and if you are lucky a bear) and want to keep them around. As with any outdoor experience, insects are around(more so in the warm months) and, like us, tend to enjoy the warmth of inside. We do our best to keep insects out, but please understand this is not entirely possible. Other suggested items: Flash light or headlamp, camera, house shoes/slippers, books and magazines Pets: Dogs are allowed. Please see below for policies -$30 per dog, per stay fee -Limit of 1 dog per stay -Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times when outside. Black bears do visit, so this is really for the safety of your dog -No loud or uncontrollable dogs -No dogs allowed on the furniture or beds -Dogs cannot be left unattended in the cabin -Renter to clean cabin of all dog hair before leaving -Upon check-in, the pet owner agrees to abide by the Pet Policies. You are responsible for any damage or injury caused by your pet and must absolve us of any liability resulting from your pet’s action. Area Attractions: We are centrally located between many historical landmarks, State and National Parks, two ski resorts and area attractions. Hiking and fishing not quite your thing? Visit the quaint downtowns of Frederick, Thurmont, Boonsboro, Waynesboro or sip and relax at a local winery. There is so much to see and do in this beautiful area of Maryland.
