The Sidings: cosy retreat near Edinburgh

Cosy countryside retreat with easy access to Edinburgh centre. Newly built. Log burning stove, super insulated, south facing with views to the fields Great local walks straight from the doorstep. We're at the foot of the Pentland Hills. 5 minutes walk to bus stop for Edinburgh (30 - 40 min ride). Or a 25 minute drive. 15 - 20 min drive to Edinburgh airport. Traffic free cycle path to Edinburgh. Shared garden and boot and utility room. Electric car charging at cost. The space The Sidings has bright rooms where you can enjoy views to the garden and the fields. The living, dining area has a wood burning stove which will be ready made up and ready to go when you arrive. It includes the kitchen which has everything you should need to cook meals, plus a microwave and dishwasher. The bedroom has a king sized bed and an en-suite shower room with an electric shower and heated towel rail. There is also a boot room (which is a shared space) where there's a washing machine, sink, a clothes drying rack and coat hanging. The building is super-insulated and draught free construction so it's both comfortable to stay in and sustainable. We have a ventilation unit (MVHR) that supplies fresh air from outside, and recovers 90% of the heat that would normally be lost, making our energy use very low. The garden is an acre of trees and meadow. Much of it is newly planted and is a work in progress. In the winter the meadow is kept short, then in the summer months it grows long and comes into flower and brings with it lots of wildlife. We're at the historic site of Currie Goods Yard. This was on the railway line serving a thriving industry of mills along the Water of Leith Valley in Victorian times. Today this is great path for walking and cycling that goes to Edinburgh city centre and on to the sea at Leith. We have converted the Goods Shed into our house over the past few years, and we have newly built The Sidings for guest accommodation. Guest access The Sidings is completely self contained. The Boot Room is a shared space with us and our other guests. The garden is shared. You're welcome to use the garden however you like. We'll also be out and about at times - there's quite a bit of work to be done outside, mostly at weekends. You'll also meet Peggy the dog in the garden she's friendly and can be enthusiastic with new people, but we'll check with you first and can always keep her indoors if you prefer. The parking area is shared. If you need one or two spaces that's fine. There's always more room than we need, and there will always be space for you.
