Once the much-loved Red Lion (Bullards) public house — and before that The King’s Head — this remarkable home dates mainly from the 17th century and brims with original charm. You’ll find oak beams, two working inglenook fireplaces, an Elizabethan window, and even an ancient pair of shoes once hidden to ward off evil spirits — a genuine piece of local folklore! (fees apply) Carwood House is a beautifully restored historic home that blends centuries-old features with 21st-century comfort. Whether you’re planning a family holiday, reunion, or countryside getaway, this former village pub offers space, charm, and everything you need for an unforgettable stay. Guest access Guests have access to all parts of Carwood House and its private, fenced garden. The driveway to the house is off the street and shared with The Cart Shed (adjoining property). There are dedicated parking spaces for 4 cars and more available on the gravelled drive. There is a key box by the front door. The Gym is shared with the neighbouring hosts and is located in the garden of their property. Guests are welcome to use the gym between the hours of 8:30am-12:30pm and 2:00pm-6:00pm. Earlier or later times are available on request. Other things to note Carwood House can accommodate 13 people if 2 guests share the sofa bed in the family/games room. Bedding is provided for the sofa bed, but it is not in a dedicated private bedroom. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome. However, we do ask that they stay downstairs and off the furniture. There is a dedicated Wi-Fi mesh system throughout the house, patios and gym, which provides speeds of up to 500mbps. There is a well equipped gym, that guests are welcome to use, though please note that the owners use it to. The gym is open to guests from 8:30-12:30 and 2-6pm. Earlier and later times are available on request. (No children allowed in gym, teenagers to be supervised by an adult). There is a small farm shop in the village, (Martin's farm) where you can purchase eggs, milk, honey and freshly prepared meat. Nearest shop is in Melton constable c.2 miles Nearest pub is in Briston c.2.5 miles Hindolveston village hall has a bar on Friday nights between 6:30-10:30pm All supermarkets do food deliveries to the village. Fakenham is c.8.5 miles away and has a large Morrisons, Tesco, Aldi and Lidl. Holt is c.7.5 miles away, with a lovely range of independent shops and cafes plus a Budgens and the renowned Bakers & Larners. The wonderful North Norfolk coast is close at hand too: Blakeney c.11 miles Wells c.14 miles Sheringham c.14 miles
