Description
A very special house, plum in the middle of down-town Pilton, a ten minute walk from the festival site and cult pub The Crown. The sitting-room is over 1000 years old, with the modern additions of the upper floor and gables dating from 1671. It is house full of quirky slopes and creaking floorboards - an antidote to living in a new build. There are 6 double bedrooms, one en-suite all with excellent mattresses and fine cotton linen. We have no ext or int cameras of any description. The space This is a beautiful ancient building with a 500 year old inglenook fireplace, and an ancient internal spring. The bedrooms are comfy and welcoming, the house entirely free of personal clutter. In the garden we can arrange a roaring fire dish for you to sit around at an extra cost. There is a barbecue for exterior cooking. Firewood in the house is free for the first fire and then charged at a reasonable rate. The heating is set to a thermostat timer. It is set to 20 degrees and comes on at 6:30am and stays on until 11:45am, it then switches off during the afternoon and comes back on again at 16:30pm then switches off over night at 23:30pm. With the Aga in the kitchen, 2 log burners and an open fire, it's easy to keep the house cosy and warm in cold weather. Guest access The house and garden are for your sole use. But bear in mind we operate a 10pm curfew for guests in the garden out of respect for our neighbours' right to a peaceful night. After 10 we ask you to bring the conversation and laughter inside and close the doors. There is parking for 6 cars. In the farm compound there are employees who are helpful and also discreet and out of sight. Dogs are welcome if they don't go into the bedrooms. EACH dog is an extra £20.00 to cover extra cleaning. The pet fee should be left in cash on the kitchen table. Other things to note This is a lovely house for a dinner party, or for a reunion or family gathering. There is a huge kitchen with an Aga and conventional cooker, which is great to create meals in. Local chef and friend Andy can cook meals for you if you ask. We have had many fine foodie parties here. If you want cooked food on arrival please ask in advance. Head honcho Dylan is around to set a glowing fire in the fire dish to sit around and enjoy. We charge £50 for a set up which includes logs for a vigorous warm burn for 4 hours. Let us know in advance if you want this on your first night. Additional wood is available at £10.00 a sack. Cash or transfer on the night. There is a an acre of garden and large flat lawn with a fire pit which with arrangement can be lit for your group to sit round under the stars Somerset style. We supply the wood for the first fire after which you can buy some more if you wish from us. As we have a thatch roof and are amongst neighbours we have a strict NO FIREWORKS policy. We are in the middle of a very friendly village who totally respect privacy but this means that loud and wild gatherings are an absolute no. Sorry! If that's your plan you are best finding a place far out in the countryside.
