It was in this house that Rosaura Rodriguez, a refugee from the Spanish Civil War, lived. She was born in 1901 in the border town of Bouzadrago, Entrimo, Galicia. During the Spanish conflict, Castro Laboreiro took in dozens of refugees. Rosaura was first arrested in 1936 by the Spanish Carabinieri for smuggling and solidarity with the fugitives. She ended up being arrested several times. She was the romantic partner of José Rodriguez Páramo, a member of the anti-Franco guerrilla group created in Castro Laboreiro by the famous Asturian communist Manolo Dente de Ouro. Arrested on 26 August 1943 for collaborating with the armed resistance, she arrived in Ourense on 28 September 1943. She was released by the War Council on 19 December 1944. She lived in this house until her death in 1987. The Calcanheiras family, who still own the house today, donated the land, and some local residents helped with the construction. Surrounded by rich fauna and flora, the Refúgio da Rossaura invites you to spend a few days in full contact with nature. Here you can go back in time and enjoy an unforgettable experience in a region with one of the richest national prehistoric heritages, where cave paintings, dolmens, cists, a castle, historic bridges, religious buildings, ovens and mills stand out. The interpretive trails and the Way of St James cross the region, celebrating the natural and cultural beauty of this unique place. It's a house that tells stories, in a warm and intimate atmosphere.
