Nepenthe. 2 Private gardens, dazzling views!
Nepenthe. 2 Private gardens, dazzling views!
Description
One of Polperro's outermost views, beyond the outer harbour walls. A sensational view, both back into the "chocolate box" village, and out to the vast horizon of the sea. Nepenthe is a Grade II listed ex-fisherman's cottage; over 250 years old. Within her lies the quaint living-space of a bygone era: log burners, lower ceilings - and a back wall built into the very Cornish rock upon which she stands. And the peace and quiet of the Nepenthe's location is untrammelled by traffic noise. The space HIGH SEASON BOOKINGS: minimum 5 nights. LOW SEASON (e.g. Oct to February, excluding school hols/half-terms, bank hols, etc): minimum 2 nights. March & April, 3 night minimum. In low season, we also offer a 10.00 CHECK-IN, and/or 17.00 CHECKOUT facility, for short-stay guests who wish to make the most of their time, at £50 per option - this includes the charge for the extended parking. Nepenthe is ideally situated to get the Winter sunshine all day, and well into those shorter-day afternoons. Nepenthe also has stable-style doors to front and back, which can help keep smaller dogs from running outside, yet still allow the light, Summer warmth, and sea air to flood in. Climb the steps to the front door, and immediately you will see the private, South-facing front terrace and garden, with seating for four - giving the most relaxing view after your journey. Although Nepenthe sleeps up to four guests, the bunk beds are not really suitable for adults. NOTE: Nepenthe is not suitable for people with mobility issues, nor for small children, as there are many steep steps, both up to the cottage, within the cottage, and up to your private rear terrace - that's why there are such amazing views! Since Nepenthe is over 250 years old, her interior is aligned with the "quaintness" that matches. There is a car park at the top of the village, approx 1km from the cottage. As of March 2025, this charges £40 for 5-7 days, (£20per day/ £40 per week) but does need to be paid using cash only (there is a change machine for £10 and £20 notes, at the car park). ALTERNATIVELY, we can offer a private parking space only 350m from the cottage (the closest you can reach by car) for £10 a day, capped at a maximum of £49 for up to a week. The parking space is available from 14.00 on check-in day, and until 12.00 on checkout date. This avoids guests "overlapping" in the space. Please contact us if you wish to pursue the option of this private space. There is NO car access along The Warren, where the cottage is located. However, there is a luggage-taxi service (quadbikes), which can transport your luggage, plus one person, to the bottom of Nepenthe's garden steps. This costs £15 upwards. We can advise further details for this service, which needs to be pre-booked. You will also find the contact details for this service towards the end of Nepenthe's image-gallery. As you go through the village, you will see the village general store, which usually sells wood and kindling. The cottage and all the pubs in Polperro are very dog-friendly. However, if you are lucky enough to have a four-legged friend, please do ensure that any "poo" is removed from the patios and gardens on checkout. If you like good food, tasty beers, stunning skies, warm welcomes, bracing walks, and narrow, winding streets, then Polperro is the place for you! There is even a natural pool, which allows for a healthy plunge in sun-warmed water. What's not to love? Guest access Entire cottage, private front patio, and private rear terrace. Other things to note The lounge TV in the lounge is an HDTV ( i.e. non-smart). Nepenthe has a smart-stick & handset, with a NETFLIX subscription. You can also sign into your own subscriptions via this smart-stick. All external steps and internal stairs are steep. As this cottage dates from a time when people were shorter, some taller guests may need to be careful regarding ceiling heights. Groceries from most supermarkets can be ordered online and can delivered to the cottage for a small fee. There are also village shops, which sell with a limited selection of goods. Polperro also has several bakeries, ice-cream parlours, and casual dining establishments. Also, a pizza take-away, a "fine-dining" restaurant, fish & chip shops, several cafes with outside areas - and several very good ( dog-friendly) pubs, serving freshly-cooked food, and a wide selection of drinks.
