Rosebank Dairy - Byron Hinterland Retreat

The Dairy is a beautifully restored hideaway set on 100 acres of rolling hills - completely private and tucked away from the main house. Once a working dairy, now a macadamia farm and nature sanctuary, it’s home to native rainforest, birds, and wildlife. Walk to the totally private, secluded swimming hole and waterfall - surrounded by trees and birds, and you might spot a platypus. With stunning views and peaceful tracks, the perfect place to unwind. You’ll feel like the only person for miles. The space Set in the hills of Rosebank NSW, this charming little building was an old dairy built circa 1905 when dairy farming was at its peak in this area. The last 50 years has seen the rise of the macadamia plantations and the decline of little dairy farms such as this one. You will see remnants of these buildings all over this area - a reminder of times past. We reconstructed the Dairy, adhering to the original footprint and dimensions employed during its initial construction in 1905. We added a bathroom as an extension, intentionally highlighting its distinctiveness to emphasise that it was not part of the original Dairy design. As you enter the Dairy, a soothing tranquility washes over you as the elegant structure embraces you with its cozy ambiance – a space where you will instantly find a sense of belonging and feel right at home. We've repurposed a significant amount of timber and materials to preserve its rustic charm, seamlessly integrating all the modern conveniences to ensure your comfort. Upon entering, the front door unveils a panoramic view of lush green fields, rainforest, and rolling hills. To your right awaits a fully equipped kitchen, complete with a dishwasher, washing machine, cooktop, microwave, and, naturally, facilities for brewing coffee and tea. The Dairy features a bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed, storage, and hanging space. This bright and airy space beckons you to unwind and relax. To regulate the surrounding temperature and minimise our ecological impact we used high grade insulation to insulate all internal and external walls as well as the ceilings .We established ventilation within the Dairy using strategically positioned window openings to facilitate airflow throughout the entire building. The polished concrete floors possess a substantial thermal mass, ensuring efficient storage and distribution of heat or cold. In the lounge and bedroom, low-energy DC fans are installed to circulate the air and maintain a cooler environment. The Dairy is surrounded by open spaces, rainforest tracks, creeks, waterfall and waterhole. The area is home to a diverse range of wildlife and serves as a sanctuary for birds boasting a myriad of species and vibrant colours. This is a hidden gem, offering a place to relax, reset and escape the demands of of our hectic lives. Registration Details Exempt
