Dove Cottage

Ideally located in the heart of Mid Sussex in the small village of North Chailey - BN8 4HX. The accommodation is within the main building, Dove Cottage. The surrounding area is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) which will be your view and yours to enjoy when you stay. The location is perfect for nature lovers, wine connoisseurs, dog walkers, cyclists and those wishing to stay for business. The space There is no smoking or vaping inside or outside our property. If you smoke or use vapes please select another Air BnB. It is dog friendly accommodation within the ground floor of Dove Cottage. It is separated from the main house by a locked door ensuring your privacy. Overlooking Red House Common, a SSSI site, the location is a must for those who love wildlife, flora and fauna. Bring your dog and enjoy the surrounding countryside literally a few steps from your front door. Dovecote has space to unwind. The front garden is shingle with flower beds on three sides. Ample seating give you the option of relaxing outdoors with a firepit/barbecue. Wood can be supplied. On entering you will arrive in the lounge/diner/galley kitchen. Sky TV and Netflix is available for your enjoyment if staying in is your thing. The comfortable sofa and chair facing the log burner will tempt you to sit and sip from your wine glass. The kitchen is equipped with all you require for a short stay. The bedroom is large and airy with a large window overlooking the owners large garden. Mood lighting and panellled wall makes the kingsized bed a welcoming sight. The noise of the chickens calling for breakfast may wake you! The bathroom has a walk-in monsoon shower room with underfloor heating and a large heated towel rail. The toilet and wash basin are located within. The main fuse box is in the large cupboard in the hallway. The lighting in hallway and bathroom are sensor controlled. If it turns off simply move and it will illuminate the room again. Switches to the right of the bathroom are not for use. The underfloor heating and towel rail are controlled by this and are permanently on when guests are present. In the unlikely event of a powercut, check that the trip has not switched off and reset if necessary. Do not remove any of the fuses. If unsure, just ask. The code will be provided on the arrival date. Other things to note This is a no smoking or vaping zone. We do not accept smokers or vapers under any circumstances. The proximity of Hospitals and other related establishments may make Dove Cottage a suitable place to stay whilst on business at these locations - Haywards Heath Princess Royal and Nuffield, Royal Sussex County (Brighton), Lewes Hospital, Chailey Heritage, Hurstwood Park Neurosciences centre, Headway Newick. The Flora and Fauna that adorn Red house Common will never cease to impress. Trees on the horizon change colour weekly. The bracken is the most amazing green interspersed with the brilliant yellow flowers of the Gorse. Rare flowers can be seen during specific seasons. The wildlife is varied and visible from the French doors of the Dovecote. Deer, ponies and the occasional cow will wander past and look into the windows at the humans staring out. Buzzards circle high on the thermals. Woodpeckers will impress you with the sound of their insect hunt. Bull Finches immediately outside chatter and circle the trees. Our local Tawny Owl will greet you around dusk and serenade you throughout the night if you open the windows! Bats will fly past silently feeding on the odd unfortunate moth. A Nightjar can be heard during nesting season calling all night for a mate to join him. Once heard, never forgotten. The beautiful sound will be your lullaby as you drift off after your day’s activities. The surrounding area is vineyard country. There are five wine producers within easy reach and a craft beer brewery a short walk away with the added bonus of a street food wagon. The South Downs National Park is a stones throw from us. Bluebell Railway is a few miles away. Trading Boundaries, boasts a restaurant, shop and art gallery and also hosts a variety of bands throughout the year and it is becoming a popular wedding venue. National Trust and Kew all have properties with incredible grounds within easy reach. Brighton is 30 minutes away by car, or 20 minutes by train from one of three local stations. London is 45 minutes away by train. Scotland in plagued by the infamous Midge, The Commons are on occasions host to a number of flies. They are only a nuisance when they manage to get inside the house. These little critters do not bite or land on you, they just fly in circles for what seems like forever. Outside, you don't notice them! Simple precautions to prevent them getting inside - Keep windows shut. For ventilation, open slightly. Close doors on entry and exit. We do not favor the use of fly spray, but there is a can in the kitchen cupboard that will rid the rooms of these pests. If a few get in, Spray before you go out for walk or drive. By the time you come back, they willl have departed and the smell/chemicals will have dispersed.
