ABOUT SPRINGBROOK: Springbrook is in the Gold Coast hinterland, just 45 minutes from its famous surf and white sand beaches. "The Mountain" as the locals call it, is part of the ancient Gondwana Rainforests of Australia which, due to its recognition as one of the world's most outstanding and valuable places, was in 1994 officially declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Area. With its origins going back millions of years, it is home to an amazing variety of wildlife from the rare Albert’s Lyrebird, which is only found in Springbrook, to Crimson Rosellas, Satin Bowerbirds, Lorikeets, Whipbirds, Parrots, Robins, Kookaburras, Koalas and Pademelons. Amidst the rainforests, the plant life is similarly spectacular with many rare, endangered and vulnerable species like the Springbrook Wedding Bush (Ricinocarpos Pinifolius), Tree Waratah (Alloxylon Pinnatum) and Clear Milk Vine (Marsdenia Longiloba). Springbrook is a forest wildness; part of an ancient volcano formed 23 million years ago, with views that stretch forever. Nestled in the heart of the rainforests, Springbrook is a small, tight-knit, rural community. Between 700 to 1000 meters high at various plateaus, it looks out over a lush green canopy of rainforests to the magnificence of the Gold Coast, it’s golden sand beaches and the blue water horizon of the Pacific Ocean. This is why Springbrook, being the only Rainforest area on the Gold Coast, is often referred to as “the Green behind the Gold”. Springbrook is a calm, quiet, relaxing and peaceful location of exquisite beauty. It is truly a very special place, populated by an eclectic mix of naturalists, botanists, environmentalists, farmers, doctors, lawyers, barristers, academics, musicians, artists, writers, generational families, young families, spiritualists, alternative lifestylers, retirees, bushwalkers and increasingly, by people seeking a slice of serene paradise in an ever-increasing fast, busy, noisy and stressful world. Set within the World Heritage Listed National Park, Springbrook is also home to cool mountain streams, gorges and waterfalls as well as majestic tall trees, palms, ferns and other plants that can only to be found in Australian Rainforests. Here are 3 interesting facts about Springbrook. Fact 1: It is the most extensive area of subtropical rainforests in the World. Fact 2: Few places on Earth contain as many plants and animals that still remain relatively unchanged from their fossilised ancestors. Fact 3: Many of Springbrook’s waterfalls, picnic areas and lookouts bare the original names handed down by the Yugambeh Aboriginal people, the first human inhabitants of the area who thousands of years ago recognised the sacred nature of these ancient lands. The mountains await you!! THANKYOU: Thank YOU for choosing to stay at Purling Brook Falls Retreat. We plan to make your stay most enjoyable. Naturally, if there is anything else you’d like to know, just ask :-) With kindness ...
