Description
Our shepherd’s hut is thickly insulated and snug, fitted with a wood burner for a cosy retreat! There is solar power with lighting and sockets, a double bed with down duvet, hot water, and a fully equipped kitchen with fridge. "What an incredibly cosy little place with an unexpectedly breathtaking view!" - Matthiew (Guest) Enjoy sunsets on the deck, fires under the stars, or a scrummy meal and drink at The George - an award-winning pub, ten minutes away by foot! The space Set on a large, tranquil campsite in the Somerset hills near Wells, this hand-built shepherd’s hut is a peaceful hideaway. Whether you’re pausing on the Mendip Way, escaping the city, or gathering with friends around the fire, this thoughtfully made space invites you to slow down, take in the view, and kick back. The hut is open-plan, with handcrafted details throughout. A mezzanine double bed with a comfy futon mattress creates a cosy nook above, while the sofa below doubles as a single bed. It also has a futon-style mattress, comes with bedding, and is long enough for tall guests. The kitchen has a gas hob, oven, fridge (with freezer), and all the essentials — from sharp knives and a cafetière to herbs, spices, and good olive oil. To the side of the hut, a sheltered outdoor sink has running hot water for washing up, with all cleaning bits included. Outside, there’s a table and chairs on the deck — perfect for morning coffee. A fire bowl and benches beside the hut are great for cooking outside and evenings around the fire. The hut is tucked into its own dug-out hard standing, with grassy banks providing privacy and shelter. Even in summer, the campsite stays calm and uncrowded — especially on weekdays. Clean, shared toilets and hot showers are just up the field. In dry weather, you can drive right up to the hut; otherwise, it’s about fifty metres from the parking space. Friends are welcome to pitch tents nearby in the flat hard standing around the hut for free, using the hut as a shared base for cooking, relaxing, and keeping warm. Because the hut runs fully on solar, winter can sometimes mean a few days of lower charge if we get long stretches of grey weather. Most of the time everything runs as normal, but if it does dip while you’re here, we’ve set things up so you’ll still be comfortable. Guest access Arrival & Parking: 📍To find the Shepherds Hut search for Croscombe Camping on Google Maps, the location is accurate :) 🚫 Important: Please approach the campsite via Thrupe Lane, not West Lane (which isn’t suitable for vehicles). 🛤️ When you arrive at Croscombe Camping, head up the track through the car park between the barns and along the hedge-line toward the yurt. 🚗 You can park in front of the yurt. If the ground is dry, you’re welcome to drive down to your hut (the larger red and blue one). Please note: it’s easy to get stuck if it’s wet — call us straight away if that happens or if you need help at any point! Key & Access: ℹ️ Once you book you’ll be provided with all the specific information you need. 🔐 It’s self check in – the key is in a lock box and you’ll receive the code on the day before your arrival. Accessibility: ⚠️The hut is elevated from the floor and accessed by a short staircase (see photos). 🛌 To get into the main bed you have to climb onto the fireplace unit before stepping into the bed. There is a sturdy block of wood which can be used as a stool for easier access. Other things to note Please note: There are two shephard huts on the campsite - you'll be staying in the larger red and blue one with the decking out the front
