Description
Make some memories at this unique and family-friendly place. This is a 3 bedroom newly renovated former Lock Keepers Cottage. Fully equipped for a cosy river side holiday. Spacious living/dining rooms, with wood-burner fireplace, separate snug and up to date kitchen. Large garden for alfresco dining, and easy access to riverside walks, shop, and restaurants. The space This is Lock Keepers Cottage, a Grade II listed cottage that sits on the banks of the River Severn at Holt Lock near the historic Thomas Telford built Holt Fleet Bridge, in Worcestershire, England. It has 3 double-bed bedrooms (one on the ground floor) , extended hall sitting room, dining room and extensive kitchen with side utility room. There are bathrooms on the ground and upper floors. There is a large garden to the front and rear. Plus a private driveway with parking for two cars, nose to tail. (exceptionally in the dry months a further car can park on the front lawn). The Cottage was built alongside Holt Lock in the 1830s when the River Severn was made navigable for freight and leisure vessels and was occupied by lock keepers employed by British Waterways until around 2010. The property has been refurbished to a high specification to provide a luxury home-from-home holiday home accommodation which could be your base for exploring the beautiful Severn Valley, either by car, boat, cycle, or walking. Or, it could serve as your family accommodation whilst attending one of the numerous nearby wedding venues. As it is located right on the side of the mighty River Severn at Holt Lock and weir, it is a wonderful fishing location ("very good for salmon, pike and barbel") and the island in the centre of the river (across the lock) is a BAA fishing rights area. The Severn Way public footpath passes right in front of the cottage. This is a waymarked long-distance footpath in the United Kingdom, which follows the course of the River Severn from source in Mid Wales and through western England to the Bristol Channel. According to the Long Distance Walkers Association the Severn Way is 224 miles (360 km). Guest access You have the whole house and garden to yourselves. Guests do not have access to the shed or garage. Vehicular access is via Holt Fleet lane to the riverside lane; the "Severn Way". In extraordinary times of River Severn flooding the low lying corner of Holt Fleet Lane can become flooded and only pedestrian access via the adjacent camping field is possible. Other things to note This Lock Keepers Cottage is Grade II listed and a unique design. The location is beautifully peaceful with the occasional passing of river and narrowboats through the lock, a walkers passing by.
