Bright midcentury modern apartment
Description
We gently renovated an airy 1960's apartment adding touches of Mediterranean flair in art and design. Our sun drenched, spacious apartment is superbly situated in one of Athens' trendiest areas with sleek wine bars and boutique shops. It's a ten minute walk to the center of Kolonaki, the posh 'see and be seen' haunt of Greek politicians and celebrities and five minutes from Exarchia center, a haven for writers and bohemians. The home defies stereotypes, letting guests explore all of Athens. The space The 110 square meter apartment is flooded in sunlight, encouraging guests to muse and relax. The home is located on one of the most vibrant parts of the city. The wrap around balcony connects the open floor living spaces to our lively neighborhood and Valtetsiou, one of Athens' most iconic pedestrian only streets. Our design mixed midcentury vintage furniture with rich oriental rugs, Levantine antiques, paintings by local artists and photography from across the Mediterranean. The home is perfect for families or groups of friends, providing ample space to unwind. The spacious apartment has two bedrooms. The first bedroom is connected to the main balcony. The second bedroom, with two large sets of french doors, opens onto a private balcony with views onto Valtetsiou, home to traditional tavernas, trendy wine bars, and coffee shops. The bathroom is modeled on a rustic Hammam bath, with a large rain-fall shower, earthy cement finish and reclaimed vintage marble basin sink. The new kitchen is perfect for a Mediterranean cooking session. We preserved as many original elements of the home as possible. The marble sink was transplanted from the original kitchen to the bathroom. All of the apartment's flooring, including the oak herringbone floors and colorful terrazzo and marble were lovingly restored. The transition between wood, marble and terrazzo is a classic feature of midcentury Athenian apartments in the historic center. We sourced furniture inside Greece and from the wider region, working with local designers and scouring antique 'bazaars' in remote northern Greece. The home is a stone's throw away from Exarchia's bustling Saturday market (Laiki). If you are lucky enough to book the home over the weekend, head to the market to stock up on fresh produce. You can sit among locals and hipsters sipping iced coffees and people watching. The home sleeps four comfortably. A fifth guest can sleep snuggly on the green sofa if necessary. **Note, the entire house (including all bedrooms) is fitted with sound proof triple-pane glass windows and doors for enhanced solitude** Registration details 00002529078
