Little House on the Fish River

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Situated on the bank of the pristine Fish River, this little house has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Located on a working farm but in its own private setting. The house has bedroom with river views, bathroom, kitchen, living area, al fresco area with BBQ & second refrigerator. Excellent trout fishing (in season), 15 minutes to Tarana, 15 minutes to Oberon, 30 minutes to Mayfield Gardens, 45 Mins to Jenolan Caves. The space Welcome to the little house on the Fish River, a quiet and tranquil getaway, right by the banks of the Fish River, near Oberon and the Blue Mountains. Lying in the queen sized bed you have views on two sides - down the Fish River and the trees on the bank. Relax to the quiet sounds of the water flowing down the river and bird songs. Nights are cool and the windows have fly screens so can be left open to let the breezes in but if its too warm - or too chill, you can put on the reverse cycle are conditioning for your optimum comfort. You can fish (in season) or swim in the river or take a warm bath under the stars or maybe just lie in the hammock or sit on the balcony. You can cook inside on the gas cooktop or microwave and bar fridge or enjoy a bit of outdoor cooking on the gas BBQ located in the covered al fresco area with its outdoor table and benches, a full size fridge and sink. There is also a fire pit which you can sit by and enjoy or cook on. There are places to eat in Oberon and of course the Tarana Pub and Momma Snow's also in Tarana, both about 15 minutes away. This is a working farm on 200 acres and you are welcome to walk on the property and explore the river frontage. The Little House is about 150 metres from the main house, which is hidden by a tree filled garden. You will be left to enjoy yourselves, but welcome to ask us for assistance if needed. We leave it up to you. There are platypus in the river, best seen in the deep still pools after dawn and before dusk. There are a lot of wombats and kangaroos, the occasional echidna and lots of birds. Guest access Guest are welcome to explore the 200 acres of the farm and 1 kilometre of river frontage. There may be stock so any gates should be left as they are found, either open or closed. There are also many interesting places in the surrounding environs as well as hikes. Other things to note This area can be very cold in winter, especially in the mornings with frosts and at times snow, if not down at the river level, then up the hill or in Oberon. Even so the days can be warm and sunny. But do bring warm clothes and shoes. The Little House however is toasty warm with double glazing, insulation, reverse cycle air conditioning, an oil heater in the bedroom in cold months, electric blankets and heated towel rails. As well of course as an outdoor fire pit and bath with hot water. In summer temperatures can be quite hot, although usually cooler than Sydney and nights are generally cool. The river is perfect for a dip and cooling off, or with access to rocks and a sandy beach. Although not necessary it's a good idea to bring water shoes, sandals or old sneakers. There is a beach umbrella which an be put up on the sandy beach. Of course the reverse cycle air conditioner can also be used to create a cool retreat. Enjoy the stars on clear nights with very little light pollution. Download a star gazing app to identify stars, constellations and planets.
