This unique place is all about the history (built in 1912) of being the center of the country store charm. The upstairs residence area boasts a 4-bedroom loft home that has been updated with some modern conveniences. Perfect for a family or group rental. It creates a special experience to live on top of the hustle & bustle of the charming country store. Guests get to experience being part of the sweet spirit of the Azalea community. As we always say, “Life is good at Azalea Mountain.” The space This building has a rich history and a lot of stories to tell. Even tho the county records start in 1917, the building was built in 1912 as a cafe downstairs and a dance hall upstairs. They soon realized that people traveling through the rigorous mountain passes needed a place to stay, so they converted the upstairs into a hotel. Soon to follow was the construction of the side addition that became the mercantile store. Of course a town needs a post office, so in the 1920’s the post office also decided to reside here, however it has since moved to a separate building next door. During the 1950’s the hotel was turned into the sole residence of the market owners, and has been just that until the Carter family recently decided to share that space to host Airbnb guests. Many families lived and served the community from this building, and it is a pleasure to share the stories and the sweet spirit of this place. The main residence has been tastefully updated to capture the old look with modern conveniences. It boasts 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a large living room open to a long dining table and kitchen area to make group gatherings easy. It becomes a magical time being part of history and knowing that the hustle and bustle of the community country store is happening beneath your feet. Guest access It is important that guest understand that when they book this space, that they are part of a active business and respect the staff and customers during their stay. During business hours Tuesday-Sunday (9am-7pm summer) (9am-6pm winter) Guests will have access through the store via the barrel doors, and will be given a door code to access at their leisure from a back door entry. Arrival, parking, access, and code information and details are given via Airbnb messages prior to guest’s scheduled arrival. Other things to note We support a lot of activities at Azalea Mountain Venue, and prioritize this house rental with such events (weddings, parties, ticketed events), therefore it may not indicate true availability on the calendar. Reservations are made by requests only. *Note: This is an upstairs unit and must be able to safely climb stairs.
