Step into a masterpiece of design and creativity in Ferguson Valley! This solar-passive architectural gem, once an artist's studio, inspires with eco-friendly ethos and a breath-taking steel suspended pool that seems to float above the garden and overlooks the valley. Immerse yourself in nature with kangaroos and birds, then gather the family or your friends for outdoor games. Just 25 mins from Bunbury and 2hrs from Perth. The space Escape to an Artistic Sanctuary: A Sustainable Retreat in Ferguson Valley Nestled in the breath-taking Ferguson Valley, this retreat offers a blend of eco-conscious and artistry. Once a renowned gallery and artist's studio, this home has been transformed into an architectural masterpiece by the celebrated, award-winning architect Jeffrey Considine. It's the destination for those seeking tranquility, natural beauty, and a touch of creative inspiration. A Sustainable Haven for the Modern Traveler Set on 1.33 hectares, this off-grid house is powered by solar energy and features a rainwater harvesting system, ensuring every drop is cherished. This sustainable escape offers a getaway, combining green living with comfort. The Artistry of the Retreat The heart of this retreat is the steel-suspended pool (not heated), an architectural marvel that seems to float above the garden below—a fusion of contemporary design and nature. Inside, you’ll discover original works by talented local artists. The natural valley breezes provide cooling throughout, keeping the living spaces comfortable. Accommodations: A Perfect Blend of Comfort and Style This home accommodates up to 7 guests, offering thoughtfully designed spaces for relaxation: Bedroom 1: King bed Bedroom 2: Queen bed Bedroom 3: Two king singles Studio Room: King single bed, two couches, a fireplace, and direct access to the hallway for comfort and convenience (The Studio room has glass doors that lead onto the hallway). Our house accommodates a maximum of 7 guests. Fun, Relaxation, and Unforgettable Experiences This retreat isn’t just about unwinding—it’s about creating memories. Take a dip in the suspended pool (not heated), enjoy friendly games, or gather around the double-sided combustion fire to stay warm as the valley breeze rustles through the trees. Keep an eye out for kangaroos and cows visiting the property, adding a touch to your country escape. For families, the retreat offers space to relax and play. However, due to the open water and electric fencing, children must be supervised at all times. While we adore animals, we kindly ask that you leave pets at home to protect the local wildlife and visiting cattle. Explore and Discover Local Treasures Although you’ll feel isolated in nature, there’s plenty to explore just a short drive away. The local area is home to wineries, craft breweries, and thrilling mountain biking trails. If you prefer to stay in, unwind by the fire, or simply soak in the views of the nearby state forest. Stay Connected—But Only If You Must While the retreat is equipped with satellite Wi-Fi, we encourage you to disconnect and fully embrace the magic of your surroundings. It’s an ideal space for recharging, both digitally and spiritually. A Masterpiece of Solar-Passive Design Designed with solar-passive principles by solar passive pioneer Jeffrey Considine, and situated atop a rainwater tank, the home benefits from natural ventilation and valley breezes, staying cooler in summer and warmer in winter. On warmer days, you’ll enjoy the added comfort of air-conditioning in the living areas—making your stay as eco-friendly as it is comfortable. Guest access Guests will receive a code a couple the day before arrival to allow them to access the property. Other things to note Due to the property’s setup, we’re unable to host more than 7 guests. Security for Your Peace of Mind To ensure your safety and comfort during your stay, we have two outdoor cameras on the property: one monitors the driveway, and the other assists with managing our rainwater collection system. Please rest assured, there are no cameras inside or in any private areas, as your privacy is our top priority. Pet Policy We adore pets, but to protect local wildlife and our visiting cows, we kindly request that no pets be brought onto the property. Please note that our natural environment hosts a bunch of other creatures including reptiles, amphibians, seasonal insects, birds, mammals, etc. We cannot guarantee a critter free stay. You might spot a few kangaroos around the garden — and yes, a little roo poo too! It’s all part of the bushland charm. We let nature be nature out here, so don’t be surprised if the locals drop by (and leave a calling card). Cooling the house- The Studio is designed with solar-passive principles, meaning it stays naturally comfortable year-round. Thanks to its clever design by renowned architect Jeffrey Considine (a pioneer of solar passive design), the house sits on top of a rainwater tank which assists in keeping a consistent temperature all year round and utilizes valley breezes and natural ventilation to keep it cool in summer and cozy in winter. On warmer days, you’ll also find split-system air conditioning in the living areas, ensuring your stay is as relaxing as it is eco-friendly. We also provide basic pantry essentials such as olive oil, salt, pepper, coffee, and tea. A quick drive to Dardanup offers a mini supermarket for any additional needs, though we recommend stocking up in Bunbury before your arrival so you can fully enjoy your stay without needing to leave! We provide beach towels during warmer months and fire wood during the cooler months. Water Conservation Please be mindful of water usage, as it is naturally sourced and limited. Accessibility Information For guests with mobility concerns, please note there are steps leading down to the river without a handrail. Our Pool Please note: Our pool is not heated. It has a unique look — painted black to reflect the surrounding valley views and blend beautifully with the natural landscape. As an infinity-edge design, it may occasionally make gurgling sounds, which are completely normal and part of its water circulation system. Bushfire Safety Information The property is surrounded by state forest. We strongly encourage every guest to read the Bushfire Emergency info at the house, which provides important safety information for your stay. Additionally, please stay informed on the latest fire alerts and safety advice by monitoring the DFES website. During the summer months, if catastrophic fire danger days are predicted, we will cancel all bookings and issue full refunds. If extreme fire danger days are forecasted and we believe it may be unsafe for guests, we may also cancel bookings or require early checkouts, offering full refunds for any cancelled nights. We will do our best to notify guests of any emergencies, but it is ultimately the guest’s responsibility to stay updated through the DFES website and safety alerts, as communication may be limited.
