Calypso: Historic Village House

We would be delighted to welcome you as guests in our much loved family home in Cyprus. Our lovingly restored house has been designed within the traditional Cypriot village style, around a picturesque central courtyard. Kolossi village is perfectly situated to explore Cyprus. Nearby: 5 min walk: Kolossi castle… 10 min drive: Kourion beach… 20 min drive: Lady’s Mile Beach, Pissouri Bay, Limassol castle and marina… 30 min drive: mountain villages of Omodos and Lofou… 45 min drive: Paphos The space The garden includes a shaded seating area, where you can enjoy your morning coffee and admire our lovely garden, full of potted plants, flowers and our much-loved lemon tree (please help yourself to lemons for your BBQ during your stay!) On the ground floor, you will find a large living area with comfortable seating, a kitchen fully equipped with all the essentials, and a large dining table. There is also a beautiful stone-walled double bedroom, adjacent to a downstairs shower room and accessible from the main living room. A spiral staircase takes you up to the first floor, where you will find a spacious double bedroom with a dressing area and en-suite. There is also a lovely twin room, with en-suite. From the main double bedroom, stone stairs curve around the outside of the house, taking you back down to the central courtyard. Over the years, we have collected many Cypriot antiques that now decorate the house. Maintaining the rich history of the building was important to us; the house is named after the village nurse Calypso, who occupied the oldest part of the building back in the 1930s. She is an integral part of the history of the village, lovingly looking after the residents from her one-roomed dwelling and stable. If you do enjoy being immersed within Cypriot history, you will also find the famous Kolossi castle (once home to Richard the Lionheart), just a short stroll away. During your stay, you will sometimes hear the noises of farm animals, or a local Cypriot trader selling fruit and vegetables from his van. This aside, Kolossi is a peaceful neighbourhood with friendly Cypriot locals. Other things to note Beyond the house, you have all the essential amenities nearby, including a supermarket just a a few minutes drive away. There are also several take aways, bakeries, and a pharmacy within the village. With the house as a base, you will have the very best of Cyprus within easy driving distance (see above). Very young children will need to be supervised on the spiral staircase. We have a cot and high chair available on request. Our home is hosted by a close family member, who is born and bred in Kolossi, and has a wealth of local knowledge.
