Cabin in Charleston
Description
Come and enjoy this unique and tranquil getaway in the heart of Northeast Kingdom. Whether you're after a quiet, meditative stay mesmerized by gorgeous views of distant mountains, rivers, and lakes, or an active outdoor adventure including hiking on 200+ acres, snowmobiling the adjacent VAST trails, skiing, or sledding the pastured slopes or nearby resorts Burke or Jay, this will be a memorable visit you'll want to return to. 15-20 mins. to shopping and restaurants in Island, Derby, and Newport. The space Located on 200+ acres at the end of a quiet, town maintained road on top of Bowen Hill, surrounded by farm land, views, forest, and stream, the secluded cabin is newly built with a 2-car garage (1 space available), 2 bedrooms with 6 beds, and fully stocked kitchen. Rest and warm up inside with propane heat in between your outdoor activities and exploration, or simply enjoy the tranquil comfort indoors sharing meals and taking in the views. Sleeping options include a queen bedroom, heated (and AC cooled in summer) loft with a double and 3 twins, and a high quality, firm queen sleeper sofa. Heated bathroom with laundry. There is no AC on the main floor but opening windows and use of multiple fans is enough for comfortable summer sleeping. 4-wheel drive or AWD are a must whenever (not just the heart of winter) there is a chance of snow. Vermont annually has the most snow of any state in the U.S. Although the town consistently snowplows and sands the road, making it up the half-mile hill (Bowen Hill) to our cabin may not be feasible without 4wd / AWD depending on conditions. Guests with 4wd / AWD have never reported trouble. Our 200+ acres are available for hiking, strolls, and exploration on foot. Let us know if you plan to use any wheeled vehicles on our property, other than skimobiles during winter which are allowed. When our fields above (via the gates access road) and below the cabin are not snow covered, they are growing hay for a local farmer, therefore we limit wheeled traffic to only what’s necessary for getting around. Keep the gate closed when not in use. If you are driving in our fields, follow the beaten paths only. Trails on either side of our fields are always available. The south side is often wet so vehicles may get stuck - make sure you can pull yourself out if you’re going in there with vehicles. Guest access The entire cabin is available for guest use. Two car spaces in the garage and plenty of outdoor space is available for parking. 238 acres are yours to explore by foot including 70 acres of pastured hills, a 40-acre maple sugar bush, 130 acres of forest with trails and a year-round stream you can hear from the cabin. Numerous logging trails are available for hiking or skiing. The property abuts an additional 200 acres of public town land offering additional hiking, skiing, and snowmobiling (VAST) trails. The multi-bed loft above the garage is accessed by stairs without a door or gate so safety for infants or toddlers will require bringing your own gate as well as supervision. We’re sorry but we can’t allow EV car charging due to the high cost of electricity and the difficulty or measuring usage for reimbursement. If you urgently need to charge your EV, please contact us first and we will try to work out an arrangement. Other things to note Nearby within a mile are the very handy, Devaney farmstand, the Clyde River, ski resorts Burke Mountain (30 minutes) and Jay Peak (45 minutes), the Dirt Church (micro) Brewery, and several lakes with excellent fishing, boating, and swimming within 5-15 minutes including the fjord-like Lake Willoughby, Echo Lake, Lake Seymour, and Crystal Lake. Summer nighttime temps are typically in the 60s so we have portable AC only upstairs, while open windows and fans downstairs keep us comfortably cool at night.
