Wake up at the lake
Wake up at the lake
Description
Halfway between the airport and town on scenic Shell Lake, our quiet rural home is just 5 km from Inuvik. Wake up to forest views and unwind on the deck overlooking the lake. Here in the winter? No streetlights means great winter aurora viewing. Visiting in the sunny season? Bring a SUP or kayak to explore the lake. This is an ideal base for cyclists, motorcyclists, and Dempster to Arctic Ocean adventurers. Guests *must* be dog-friendly: our two pups will want to be your best friends. The space This is a quiet area where you won't need to worry about anyone potentially tampering with your vehicle, trailer or motorcycle. We own two dogs (lab and collie mixes) that are very friendly but can be barky when people come in the door. The dogs have access to all of the house except for your bedroom. There are a couple neighbourhood dogs that often roam freely as well as our own but all are friendly. *If you are nervous, allergic or uncomfortable with dogs this is not the right space for you. * This is an owner occupied 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom single story house. It is approximately 2,300 square feet in size and heated by woodstove and forced air. There is no air conditioning but the guest room has a fan in the summer. We have one dedicated Airbnb room and a second spare room. On occasion we will rent out both rooms to groups of 3-4, but please send a request specifically for this. This is a non-smoking house. You are welcome to smoke outside but must dispose of your cigarette butts appropriately. There is a large, fully stocked kitchen with a gas range, espresso machine, Keurig (we provide coffee/tea for guests) and all the amenities you need to cook. You will have primary use of the livingroom area as we have a separate den space. Your bedroom is approximately 115 square feet and features a brand new queen sized Douglas mattress, two nightstands and a wardrobe with hangers and shelves. Your large window looks into the boreal forest that surrounds us and has both blackout blinds and curtains to make the room dark during the midnight sun. The bedroom is located off the kitchen and does not share a wall with any other bedrooms. The large, main washroom features a stand up shower. You will not have to share this washroom. As we are on pump in/pump out water, we ask that guests refrain from using the bathtub. Pump in water means that we monitor the tank and have to call to have it filled on demand. If you'd really like to use the tub, check in with us so we can check the water tank level. We ask our guests to be conscious about their water usage and not leave taps running unnecessarily. Occasionally kids from town have bonfires near the lake on the weekends which can make some noise, but in our experience this isn't frequent. All in all, this rural spot is generally much quieter than town. Guest access You will have shared use of the kitchen, dining room and private use of your bedroom. The bathroom is only used by guests - which may be only you, unless there are guests staying in our second guest room. The living room is technically shared but you will be the primary user of it. The deck has a table, chairs and small BBQ that are yours to enjoy. There is a washer, dryer and drying rack guests are welcome to use as well. We only have hypoallergenic detergents available however guests can bring/purchase their own if they prefer. During your stay We are an early 40s outdoorsy couple who work in the environmental sector. One of us is a born and raised local and the other has lived in the north for over a decade. We are pretty low-key and happy to be social or let you come and go without much interaction. If you have any questions about your stay or adventure, Inuvik, things to do, etc. we are happy to field any questions you might have. We do not smoke or drink alcohol however responsible alcohol use in the house is fine. If you smoke cigarettes or marijuana we ask that you do so outside and dispose of your butts responsibly (not on the ground). Other things to note Dogs: We have two dogs that live in this house: a senior lab who loves people and a two year old border collie mix who is very friendly but a bit rambunctious. They often bark when people come into the house but are friendly. Our dogs have access to all of the house except your bedroom. If you are allergic or do not like dogs this is not the right stay for you. Water: Houses on Shell Lake are all on pump in water. This means that we monitor the water tank and have to call to have it filled on demand. We ask that guests be conscious of their water usage to avoid unexpectedly running out. Parking: We have a large driveway that can accommodate larger vehicles and trailers.
