Description

Located on a 5th generation family farm in peaceful Patearoa, Central Otago, ‘The Cottage’ will immediately pull you into the simplicity and comfort of country life – a quaint, peaceful, relaxing escape. ‘The Cottage’ is the ideal place to rest, recharge and reconnect. Perfect for couples’ getaways, family holidays, gatherings with friends, or accommodation while doing the Rail Trail. Dogs (outside only) and horses are welcome and an airstrip is available if you wish to fly in/out. The space 'The Cottage' was built over 100 years ago for Fred and Violet McSkimming and was crafted from mud bricks that were made onsite. It has recently been lovingly restored inside and out so it can continue to be used and enjoyed by future generations, friends, family and visitors to the area. Basking in the sun and restored with holiday makers in mind, the charming cottage offers endless ways to relax and unwind. From enjoying your morning cup of tea or coffee on the veranda while soaking in the views, to enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sun go down, playing board games in front of the cosy fire, streaming a movie, or taking in the spectacular night sky on a clear evening. We welcome our guests as we welcome our friends and family – with home baking for you to enjoy with a cuppa. The Cottage has three bedrooms and can accommodate up to six guests. There are two bedrooms inside the cottage (bedroom one: 1x king bed, bedroom two: 2x king single beds) and a bunk room accessed via the porch (1x single bunk). Free Wi-Fi is available and there's a Smart TV for those that want to catch-up on their favourite TV series or watch a movie. If you’re looking to get out and explore the area, there’s plenty on offer: - The Patearoa Golf Course is directly across the road - There’s a lovely walk up the Sowburn river to Dykes Dam – a well-known local swimming spot, perfect for picnics and gold-panning too - Lammermoor Whisky and Gin Distillery is just a short drive up the road - There are a number of great fishing spots. Let us know if you're keen and we'll point you in the right direction - Naseby is a 20 minute drive away and offers curling, golf, mountain bike trails for all abilities, luging and night sky tours - Hike, ride or drive through the mountainous high country land of Oteake Conservation Park - The Central Otago Rail Trail is accessible via a 10min drive to either Waipiata or Ranfurly - Visit some (or all) of the quaint country pubs in the area for a tasty lunch, dinner, or refreshing beverage. The property is fully fenced and dogs are welcome. Please just always keep them outside and under control. The property is also suitable for horses should you have one or two you wish to bring with you. Please be sure to get in contact prior to your arrival if you plan to do so. As soon as you arrive at The Cottage you will feel at home and wish you were staying longer. Guest access If you are doing the Central Otago Rail Trail and need transport to/from the track, let us know and we will endeavour to help. Please get in touch with us if you wish to use our airstrip to fly in/out. It is a short walk to the cottage from the airstrip so we can arrange transport if required. Please do not enter any nearby sheds or wander outside the cottage paddock without prior permission. Other things to note The Cottage is located on a working farm. Please respect this and do not enter any sheds, or wander into neighbouring paddocks without prior permission. If you open any gates, please shut them behind you. If you have a dog with you, please keep it within the cottage paddock and under control at all times and ensure it doesn't worry any stock (cattle, sheep etc).
