The House in the Hill

Escape to our underground house, a hidden gem surrounded by woods. Ideal for 2-4 guests but can sleep up to 6, it blends tranquility with modern comfort. Inside, a well-designed space includes a full kitchen, cozy living area, and full bathroom with laundry. The charming sunroom offers panoramic views, creating a unique experience for a romantic retreat or peaceful family getaway. Check out our guidebook as there are numerous attractions just a stone's throw away from the property. The space The House in the Hill is truly one of a kind. Sitting on 13 acres it is a private escape from the hustle and bustle. Feel free to explore the surrounding forest or take a hike along the creek-bed. Just steps outside the front door you will find a covered patio, charcoal grill, fire-pit, swinging egg-chair and picnic table. In the sunroom you will find a large sofa, great for sleeping an additional guest. Amenities in this room include a smart TV set up with an Xbox Series X (you will need to log into your own Microsoft account to play) Nintendo Switch (with several games downloaded) and DVD player (the home is stocked with a variety of movies), record player, telescope, dart board, and bistro table. Please note that the wood-burning stove and gas logs are not in operation at this time. Just off the sunroom is the dining area, equipped with a 4-person dining table and a plethora of puzzles and board games. In this room you will also find a coffee station, stocked with both a Keurig and drip coffee maker, along with a French-press and a variety of coffees, teas, hot-chocolate, sugars and creamer. In the main living room, you will find a love seat and full bed as well as a Roku TV. Adjacent to the living room is the large fully stocked kitchen. Along with the basic amenities (stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave) our kitchen is stocked with an air-fryer, crock-pot, toaster, blender, baking sheets, pots, pans, grilling tools, misc cooking tools, tableware and drinkware. The bathroom offers a shower-tub combo stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body and face wash, a walk-in cedar closet, and washer/dryer. Please note that the bathroom has a 'stall style' door. Situated to the right of the bathroom is the main bedroom which has a queen-sized bed, smart tv, luggage rack, and shelf full of a variety of books. 5th and 6th guests will have the option to sleep on the large sofa in the sunroom or the provided twin roll away bed. Guest access The entire main level of the home is available to the guests. The guests do not have access to the stairs leading to our temperature-controlled storage area or the unfinished basement of the home which has a separate entrance on the exterior. Please note the wood-burning stove and living room fireplace are not in operation, however; we do offer a firepit outside. Prior to us owning this home, there was a hot tub located in the sunroom, there is now a large metal door in the floor which used to contain the hot tub's pump-house. This door is covered by the area rug and is not available for guests to access or open, but please watch your step as it does create a small bump under the carpet. Due to the extra cleaning they require though, we do charge a $75 pet fee. Please include your pet when making your reservation to ensure the pet fee is included in your booking total. We take pest control seriously and utilize professional services regularly. Additionally, we personally implement preventative measures to ensure a clean and comfortable environment. However, it's important to note that this is a partially underground home in the middle of the forest. There is a slight possibility of encountering the occasional bug. We also ask that you please do not leave food out as this can attract mice. Please be assured that a rare sighting does not reflect the cleanliness of our home. Even with all the preventative measures in place, nature is impossible to fully control.. especially for an underground home in the forest. Guests can message us anytime with questions and concerns. We live on property (in a separate home) and are available if you need us, otherwise you'll have complete privacy. The House in the Hill is a fantastic spot for a family get-away as we are stocked with children's toys, books, sidewalk chalk, coloring books, games and movies. However, please note that the steep metal staircase is not blocked off and may cause a safety issue for an adventurous child. Please do not hesitate to message me before you book and I will be happy to answer any questions regarding the layout and safety for small children. Please never leave children unattended in the home or on the property.
