On all sides, Valbonnais is a country a little apart, a little secret, away from the main roads, unknown but to be discovered. The municipality of Valbonnais is located in the peripheral area of the Écrins National Park at an altitude of 800 m, about a dozen km from the city of La Mure in Matheysine (all shops and health facilities) and an hour from Grenoble (large agglomeration, trains, airports 45 min/1 hr). The main attraction of Valbonnais in summer is its body of water, appreciated by young and old, ideal for escaping the summer heat. Relaxation, swimming, paddle boarding or kayaking, there's something for everyone. On the vertical side for lovers of trails or rocks, with or without snow, the Écrins National Park starts a few km away in Entraigues (5 min) and allows magnificent hikes with its many lakes and stages of the GR54, such as from the picturesque village of Valsenestre (25 min) or the Désert in Valjouffrey (30 min) towards the Olan massif (access to the Font Turbat refuge). The Coiro Massif (2607 m) accessible from the accommodation offers its 1800 m elevation gain for a breathtaking view of the surrounding valleys. The Taillefer Range, its many lakes, from Col D'Ornon (20 min) or Alpe du Grand Serre (30 min, ski resort and mountain biking). Within a radius of 40-50 min: Bourg-D'Oisans gives access to La Bérarde – Vénéon valley (inquire about the opening of the road), Alpe d'Huez (55 min), Les Deux-Alpes (1.5 hours, possibility by cable car from Venosc 50 min + ascent in cabin), further on La Grave opens onto the very high mountain, Meije massif (1.5 hours), and the great passes of Lautaret, Galibier... Right next to Valbonnais, Beaumont, Valgaudemar and further on Champsaur, Gap 1 hour, Dévoluy (50 min), Trièves (Mens 30 min). And, closer, many hiking spots all around the Matheysine (20-30 min) with its lakes and dams. Via Ferrata at Alpe du Grand Serre, Sautet Dam. On the horizontal side for lovers of nautical activities, the Valbonnais Water Plan (unsupervised) is a 15-min walk away (elevation gain ~100 m, large parking lot), free swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, bar/catering. Cultural, festive and sporting events during the spring/summer. Other water sports are possible in the surroundings (swimming, surfing, kite, sailing, paddle, kayak): Lac de Monteynard (after La Mure, 30 min), Barrage and Lac du Sautet (towards Corps, 30 min), Lac de Laffrey (towards Grenoble, 35 min). Numerous fishing areas. On the donkey back side for lovers of climbs and descents (be careful!), many mountain bike, trail, bike trails (including legendary Alpine passes in the vicinity) are accessible from the accommodation and you will also find in Valbonnais offers for Walks or Hikes with Donkeys. On the cerebral side for lovers of culture and heritage, Valbonnais has places and buildings to note, its castle, its small chapels, and in particular its irrigation canals dating from the 15th to the 19th century, which offer places to walk and discover (also by mountain bike) in the shade and cool for miles all around the valley, up to Beaumont. La Matheysine is generally rich in cultural and heritage sites (Route Napoléon, Notre-Dame de La Salette possible by hiking from Valbonnais, Matheysin Museum, Petit Train de La Mure, Image Mine Museum, it was often the summer residence of composer Olivier Messiaen, resting in Saint-Théoffrey, his famous Messiaen Festival in the Pays de la Meije/La Grave in summer...)
