Description
A remote West Coast experience like no other, embraced by lush temperate rainforest and perched on the edge of the wild Tasman Sea. Bach 51 jostles for position with nikau palms just beyond the high tide. Explore the beach cave nearby and enjoy long walks along this untouched coastline - most days, you'll be the only one leaving footprints on the beach! The space A genuine New Zealand bach, it is quirky and rustic and offers an authentic experience, however, this is not for everyone so perhaps don't book if you prefer modern and minimalist. Bach 51 is off-grid but still provides most modern conveniences - see 'other things to note' and the amenities listed for more information :) HELP SAVE THE PENGUINS - A portion of every booking from our six West Coast baches is donated to the West Coast Penguin Trust. $14,196.00 has been donated so far (as of March 2026). The penguins thank you! Guest access Guests have exclusive access to the whole house and often you will have the beach all to yourselves too! Other things to note Satellite WiFi provided - it's fast, free and unlimited. The WATER SUPPLY is from a nearby spring, it is filtered but otherwise not treated - you may wish to bring bottled water for drinking. OFF GRID with solar/battery for lighting, charging your phone, TV and WiFi. Gas for cooking and endless hot water showers. Firewood is provided for the log fire (inside) and a gas heater is also available for instant heat - you'll be toasty warm in any weather. An electric fridge is provided (under-bench 117L) this is on a timer to conserve battery power overnight. A fire pit is provided on the front lawn for campfires, collect driftwood from the beach & toast marshmallows as the sun sets. Cell reception is available on the front deck (weak signal) and a strong signal is available from the beach directly in front of the bach. PARKING: There is a roadside parking bay for 2 cars adjacent to the short pedestrian ramp leading to the bach. The NEAREST SHOPS for groceries and fuel are Westport (35 mins) and Greymouth (40 mins) so be sure to stock up before you arrive or dine at The Punakaiki Tavern just ten minutes away.
