Nestled on 20 private acres near Big Bend National Park, this charming desert retreat features two bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one with a low-profile bunk bed), a small living area with a couch, and a compact workstation with a desk for researching hikes and attractions around Big Bend National Park or Terlingua Ghost Town. The kitchenette includes a mini fridge / freezer, coffee maker, and microwave and cooking essentials, and cleaning supplies. Stay comfortable with a mini-split AC/heating system and connected with Starlink Wi-Fi. While there’s no indoor toilet, our eco-friendly outhouse with a compost toilet and an outdoor shower (plus a backup solar shower) keep things convenient. Relax outside by the firepit, grill on the Blackstone griddle or burner for boiling water / stews etc. or use the traditional charcoal BBQ grill. Unwind under the stars in this serene desert escape. Booking requests will be pre-screened and communication is done through the Airbnb app. GUEST INFORMATION: This charming tiny home accommodates a maximum of 4 guests, including the booker. Primary guest must be at least 21 years of age, must be present for the duration of the stay, and must be part of the group staying at the property. Third-party bookings are not permitted. Due to allergies and limited space, pets are not allowed. While a high-clearance 4WD vehicle is normally not required most of the year, it is always recommended, especially during the rainy season (July–September) when dirt and gravel roads can become challenging. We are not responsible for guests getting stuck on the roads, and there is no cell signal on ranch roads. However we are only located about a mile and a half off the main Highway. Guests should still check the weather forecast before arriving to prepare for road and desert conditions. CONSIDER 4WD JEEP RENTAL FOR YOUR STAY! If you don’t have a 4WD or high-clearance vehicle, or if unexpected rain is in the forecast, consider renting a 4WD Jeep in Terlingua for a reliable backup plan. We recommend Big Bend Jeep Rentals in Terlingua for a seamless experience. Reserve your Jeep and ensure a worry-free adventure, rain or shine! WHAT TO BRING: To keep our Airbnb simple and self-cleaning, we kindly ask guests to bring their own bedding. Please bring your own sheets and blankets or a sleeping bag—our personal favorite for convenience! You can easily place your sheets or sleeping bag over the provided "staged sheets" on the bed, making setup and departure a breeze. Thank you for helping us maintain a clean and hassle-free stay! Bring your own towels for the outdoor shower. Bring plenty of drinking water! Drinking water is not provided, though filtered catchment rainwater / well water is available for showers and dishwashing. Firewood or charcoal is not supplied, but extras may be found in the blue bin, though not guaranteed. Bring food and snacks, but coffee is often available, as guests are encouraged to leave extra unused coffee. CLEANING RESPONSIBILITIES: No cleaning service is provided, so guests must clean to avoid fees. PAY IT FORWARD & please leave it better than you found it. Cleaning includes removing trash and food, cleaning dishes, wiping counters, sweeping, vacuuming, or mopping floors, moving outhouse waste to the compost. No daily cleaning or linens are provided. WHAT WE OFFER: Our solar-powered tiny home includes Starlink WiFi (enable wifi calling on phones) an outside propane Blackstone griddle burner combo, a mini-fridge w/ freezer, a coffee maker with a French press, Kettle to heat water, kitchen utensils, dishes coffee cups, plates, etc. board games, books, extra blankets, and a mini-split AC/heating system with limitations detailed below. The property features a private outhouse with a compost toilet (no indoor toilet) and an outdoor shower with privacy fencing, offering a propane-heated option and a solar shower backup. SOLAR POWER USAGE & LIMITATIONS: The tiny home runs on solar power with a battery backup, so guests must conserve energy. The mini-split AC/heating system works best at night during extreme heat and is not designed for all-day use. Turn off AC/heat, electronics, and the coffee pot when leaving to allow battery recharge. Hosts may remotely turn off the AC/heat if battery levels are low. Power outages are possible on cloudy days or during high demand, making the home unsuitable for all-day indoor stays in extreme weather; consider on-grid options for lounging. Avoid high-energy appliances like hair dryers or blenders, but phones, laptops, fans, and the coffee pot are fine if unplugged after use. Our solar system cannot support electric vehicle charging. Guest access You’ll have full access to our cozy tiny container home and 20 private acres, just 1.5 miles off HW 118 on a dirt/gravel ranch road. Most of the year when it's dry a 4WD vehicle isn’t needed, but WE ALWAYS RECOMMEND a high-clearance 4WD, especially if rain’s in the forecast, as roads can get muddy & tricky. If you get stuck in mud, there’s no cell signal, but you can walk to the property, hop on WiFi, and reach out to us. We’ll do our best to share local contacts, though availability isn’t guaranteed. You can also call the Brewster County Sheriff’s non-emergency line for help with locating a tow truck. A good back up plan if you don't have a 4WD / high clearance vehicle and there is unexpected rain in the forecast is to head down to Terlingua first and rent a 4WD / high clearance Jeep. PROPANE Propane for the outdoor heated shower and Blackstone griddle is provided, with extra tanks on site. If propane runs out, exchanges are available in Terlingua at Cottonwood General Store or Dollar General. Just send a photo of the dated receipt through the Airbnb app and we will reimburse you. SOLAR & EQUIPMENT Our home is solar-powered. Please avoid unplugging or tampering with Starlink, routers, security cameras, or solar equipment to prevent service fees. SOLAR POWER TIPS This home runs entirely on solar power with battery backup. To ensure reliable energy: Conserve energy, as cloudy days, high usage, or extreme weather can impact power. Avoid using high-energy appliances like hair dryers or blenders; phones, laptops, and fans are fine. Unplug the coffee pot after use and opt for the propane stove or kettle for hot water. Turn off lights and devices, AC/ HEAT mini-split, when leaving for the day. IN CASE OF A POWER OUTAGE Outages are rare but may occur due to low sunlight, high energy use, or extreme weather. If an outage happens: Wi-Fi calling will be unavailable on-site. Drive toward HW 118 in Terlingua for cell service to contact us. Use rechargeable lanterns, the propane cooker (keep windows open), and the outdoor grill. The compost toilet will function, but the outdoor shower and sink require electric water pumps and won’t work. Power typically resumes by 10:30–11:00 AM the next morning when sunlight begins to recharge the batteries. If an outage occurs, we’ll address it as quickly as possible, though repairs may take a day or two. Contact us, and we’ll do our best to resolve it. In emergencies, we or a trusted repair person may need to access the property per Airbnb policy. We’ll attempt to notify you, but cell service can be unreliable in this remote area.
