Other things to note The landscape here has been shaped by elemental forces: Rock towers, gorges and ravines, deep river valleys and vast heights take us on a journey through the history of the earth's formation. It is also a journey for the senses: Feel the cool breeze in the rocky crevice, smell damp moss, place your hand on warm slate, listen to the rippling of water over stony ground... The Felsenland, in the very south-west of the Eifel on the border with Luxembourg, is blessed by nature with a unique diversity. The bizarre rock formations of Luxembourg sandstone around the Ferschweiler Plateau and the neighbouring slate cliffs of the Islek to the north along the deeply incised valleys of the Enz and Our rivers form the heartland of the South Eifel Nature Park and the German-Luxembourgish Nature Park. But man has also left his mark on this landscape over thousands of years. If you take a leisurely stroll along the hiking or cycling trails, the ancient Fraubillenkreuz tells its story, as do the ruins of the Roman villa at Holsthum, the Beilsturm in Neuerburg or the baroque Schankweiler Klause.
