L’Ancienne Écurie is a charming one-bedroom gîte for two in a peaceful Aude village near Canal du Midi and Carcassonne. This quirky converted stable blends authentic French character with modern comfort, including fibre Wi-Fi, Smart TV, heating, fresh linen and a fully equipped kitchen. Perfect for cyclists and slow travellers, with secure bike storage, tools and a complimentary bottle of local sparkling wine for stays of 2+ nights. The space The gite is essentially a small house. It has its own front door via a gate off the main street with a private and shady terrace decorated with plants and herbs On entering the property, there is a small lobby for coats and a storage cupboard. This opens onto the lounge/dining area There is a dining area with table and chairs for 2, a sofa and easy chair. There is a smart tv and free Wifi access (fibre). Off the lounge is a fresh and contemporary galley style kitchen with new fitted cupboards and worktops. All the equipment you need to cook a meal for two is provided and there is a generous fridge/freezer to keep drinks and food fresh The staircase at the rear of the lounge leads to the bedroom and en suite. The double bed has good quality cotton bed linen and towels are provided The bedroom has a high barn style ceiling and a double door/window to the courtyard with shutters There is a secure, dry and safe storage area adjacent to the property for 2 bicycles. Inside is a range of tools, cleaning equipment and a charging point. NOTE: Unfortunately the accomodation is not suitable for handicapped or disabled persons and there are no facilities to accomodate children or pets Guest access The key to the gite is in a lockbox to the left of the front door, the code for which, along with the wifi details, will be sent to you 24 hours before arrival. You will have access to the entire home and your hosts are just across the courtyard Other things to note Our gite is the perfect base to explore the region with its fantastic countryside dotted with vineyards, pine trees and mountains. We are around an hour from the Mediterranean sea with beaches at Narbonne and Gruissan. After a long day exploring, relax enjoy the cozy, heated rooms Of course, you have to see the castle at Carcassonne, an incredible UNESCO World Heritage site, packed with history and stunning views, its just like a film set. Don't forget the historic Bastide, packed with gorgeous buildings, stunning cathedrals and busy squares where you can relax and drink in the atmosphere The gite has a safe, secure and dry storage area for 2 bicycles adjacent to the property. Inside is a range of tools, cleaning equipment and charging points. Maps, information and details of cycling routes are available and being less than 5km from the Canal du Midi, it makes it perfect for all your cycling adventures IMPORTANT NOTE(S) Unfortunately we are not insured to welcome small children.
