Description
Relax and recharge at this peaceful cottage, full of warmth and character. Enjoy slow mornings on the sunny patio, or take in the view from the beautiful private garden whilst red kites soar overhead. Star gaze from the balcony at night or curl up in front of a blazing log fire before sleeping soundly in comfortable beds. Venturing out, there are woodland walks, rivers and waterfalls to discover, and ten stunning beaches all just a short drive away. The space Tucked away in the sleepy hamlet of Cwmhiraeth (loosely translated as the Valley of Longing), Gellideg is a haven for nature lovers. Located near the point where 3 counties (Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire) meet, the cottage is perfectly located for exploring the West Wales coast and countryside. The cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms and two bathrooms and is popular with couples, families and friends looking to get away from it all. The large well equipped kitchen has everything you need including a freezer, coffee machine and dishwasher. In the cosy living room, a comfortable sofa and snuggler chairs are arranged around the log burner. There's a small TV, a bluetooth speaker - even a desk and chair for anyone needing to work! Outside the kitchen there's a private patio area with table, chairs and a sun umbrella. Upstairs there's a twin bedroom with ensuite shower room, a master bedroom with king sized bed and the main bathroom. French doors in the master bedroom open onto a balcony-bridge to the pretty, private garden with elevated seating areas perfect for enjoying a drink while the sun goes down over the valley. We provide high quality cotton bedding, huge fluffy white towels and complimentary toiletries. We also supply logs and kindling for the fire. Gellideg is baby and child friendly, with discreet stair gates throughout and useful items (e.g. cot, highchair, baby monitor) supplied on request and at no extra charge. We welcome one small to medium, well behaved dog. The garden is bordered by hedges but as there are often sheep in the next field, we ask that dogs are kept on leads while in the garden. The Local Area The area around Gellideg was once the beating heart of the Welsh woollen mill industry. Follow the footpaths through ancient woodlands to discover old mills, streams and waterfalls. At Drefach Felindre (5 minutes away) you'll find the National Wool Museum, a well-stocked village shop, off license and Deli, a large play park and the John Y Gwas pub. There are supermarkets in Newcastle Emlyn, a few miles further on. Exploring Cardigan Bay (within 20 miles) Cardigan, Newquay and Aberaeron are all a 30 minute drive away, as are many of the area's finest beaches including Mwnt, Penbryn and Llangrannog. Foodies will find plenty of artisan produce to delight in (plus gastro pubs and Michelin Guide restaurants), and art lovers will enjoy browsing local galleries and shops. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy spotting dolphins, seals and red kites. Nearby attractions for children include several castles, the Welsh Wildlife Centre, and a bit further away, Folly Farm. Guest access Gellideg is a detached cottage with private parking to the front for two cars. The cottage is accessed via a short flight of stone steps up to the front porch where you will find a key safe (you will be notified of the code). Other things to note Gellideg has been graded 5 star by Visit Wales (the Welsh Tourist Board). We have been hosting guests since 2017 and consistently receive 5 star reviews such as this one from September 2023: "We had a lovely stay - the cottage is beautifully decorated and the owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. The garden is gorgeous and we enjoyed watching the wildlife and birds from the top terrace. Tucked away in a quiet hamlet, it’s a lovely place to come and relax".
