Description

A home away from home by the beach. Perfect for families or a group of friends on holiday together. Also a good option for longer stays where you might want to save your money by cooking for yourself during your visit to Rabaul. There are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, plus a full kitchen, living room & laundry room downstairs. In-house guests can enjoy our large private beachfront, snorkeling on our house reef, bonfire on the beach plus a Restaurant & Bar on-site. The space Kulau Lodge is a small family-run Hotel & Restaurant on the beach with beautiful views of Talili Bay. We are tucked away in a quiet village called Kabakada, 20mins drive from Rabaul town (1hr drive from Kokopo & 1h 45min from the airport). Established in 1966, and now with our family since 1974, we have a great relationship with our surrounding communities. One of our amazing achievements together is our community led Marine Management Area of our house reef in 2019, which has allowed our coral to regrow & attract a lot more marine life to the area. There are 9 Holiday Homes side by side. Some have long-term tenants and some are for short stays. There is a sheltered carport for in-house guests. 24hr security guards on patrol every day, plus a boom gate at our entrance. The property has a bore water system for general use plus rain water tanks for drinking. We recommend boiling the water first if you might have tummy sensitivities. We have a back-up genset for use during black-outs. During prolonged black-out periods we may ration use of the genset during the day, but we will run it all night for security and comfort. In-house guests can enjoy our large private beachfront, snorkeling on our house reef, bonfire on the beach plus a Restaurant & Bar on-site. There are hammocks, masks & snorkels plus stand-up paddle boards which you can borrow from the bar. Our Regular Restaurant hours are Fri-Sun and public holidays, 10am-4pm BUT we can provide breakfasts & dinners as well, so long as you arrange this with us prior to check-in. We can also arrange transfers for you into town (Rabaul or Kokopo) plus the airport. At the moment, we have a great arrangement with security firms for our transfers. Please do send us a message with any other questions or requests you might have. Guest access In-house guests have access to: - our large private beachfront - beach shade huts - bonfire area on the beach - snorkeling the House Reef (we will give you a brief on the best areas at the Bar) - garden areas to admire or relax on a mat or hammock - Restaurant & Bar area, when open - guided walk to sites or church in the village Available for hire: - BBQ plate with firewood supplied - gas BBQ - 2x stand-up paddle boards - some masks & snorkels - dugout canoes from the village - 4-person pedal boat Other things to note If you would like to have all your meals from our Restaurant, please let me know so I can organize our team. If you would like airport transfers, please also let me know in advance so I can organize this as well. We outsource our transfers with trusted local PMVs and security firms such as Guard Dog or Insight Security when their vehicles are available.
