The wilderness just outside the fence and views for miles around! Our wonderful autonomous cottage is located in the Masai Mara, on the Olchorro Oirowua wildlife conservancy. It is positioned at the edge of a vast savanna, guaranteeing you’ll see wildlife everyday, even before breakfast! No luxury resort isolating bubble here: with traditional Masai families (and their cows) living nearby, and a traditional Masai village 800m away, the wildlife and cultural activities on offer are countless! The space In addition to your cottage and private bathroom, you will have full access to the shared living room, kitchen, and veranda within the main guesthouse, as well of course as the entire compound. You can opt for our full-board option (additional $20 per guest per day, with a minimum of 2 guests) or choose to prepare your own meals in your kitchenette. Five rooms are also available within the main guesthouse for larger groups. Several spacious walk-in tents can also be set up for larger events and according to needs. So please do not hesitate to contact us should you need more than one room or have a special event in mind! INFO ON OUR OTHER ROOMS (within the main guesthouse): • Room 1: 1 king sized bed, private bathroom; • Room 2: 1 queen sized bed, 1 double bed, private bathroom; • Room 3: 3 single beds (or 1 king and 1 single), private bathroom; • Room 4: 2 single beds, shared bathroom; • Room 5: 2 single beds, shared bathroom. • Versatile cottage: - full unit: 2 rooms, 1 king sized bed, 1 queen sized bed, 1 bunk bed, kitchenette, 2 private bathrooms; - half unit A: 1 room, 1 king sized bed, kitchenette, private bathroom; - half unit B: 1 room, 1 queen sized bed, 1 bunk bed, private bathroom (meals in the main lodge). • Tents, various sizes: just let us know what your needs are and we’ll set them up for you. The guesthouse is a former family home built in 1976 by Ole Ntutu, a renown and respected Masai elder who was well ahead of his time. The authenticity and history of this house cannot be doubted, and even though it has just gone through a major renovation and upgrade (2023), the marks left by previous inhabitants can still be seen. Guest access Our guesthouse is accessible by car (4 wheel drive recommended), by more challenging but culturally more imbedded public transportation, private taxi, and airplane (Ngerende airstrip located about 5km away). Just let us know how you plan to reach us and we’ll help you make sure all the details are worked out. Once on site: on foot, rented motorbike, hired motorbike taxi (boda boda), private or hired car (including to the national reserve and game drives within the conservancies). Other things to note The guesthouse and the cottage are right in the middle of wildlife and Masai country. In addition to the traditional wildlife safaris we can help you arrange, including to the National Reserve, you’ll therefore also be able to engage in numerous cultural and social activities (reasonable extra fees will apply, depending on activity): - Do you feel like helping the ladies milk the cows? Or go out on foot in the savanna with the herders for a few hours? Easy! - Feel like volunteering with the local children at the nearby (600m) primary school? We’ll arrange it! - Thursday is market day in nearby Aitong! You feel like going? Done! - Would your children like to play soccer with the local children? Why not!? - Or go for a walking safari, for instance up to the rhino sanctuary? We’ll line up some rangers to accompany you! - Or maybe you would like to engage in more voluntary work in the wider Mara? Then bring clothes, teaching materials, sanitary pads (for instance) and we’ll accompany you to communities where children and schoolgirls need them! - Do some traditional beading with the local ladies? Or get your hands dirty and help patch up their traditional Masai adobe houses? Or have a meal or spend the night in one of them? Done! - Combine a morning safari with a breakfast in the bush? We’ll make sure it happens! - Or has the idea of renting some motorbikes and go on an exploratory expedition crossed your mind? We've done it before! - To cap it all, how about, at the end of a long day, relaxing by a campfire reminiscing the adventures of the day with your eyes lost in the warm ambers? - Of course, don’t hesitate to let us know about your own ideas and wishes, we’ll try our best to fulfil them!
