The Diamond In The Rough

Welcome to The Diamond In The Rough! This off grid bunkie is nestled at the base of what we call Ravens Ridge, part of our sprawling 10km trail system located on Peddler's Passage Farm Stay. Beaver ponds, towering pines and all of the forest creatures is only part of this experience! This space is our first endeavour on our 400 acre farm stay property, in Northern Ontario. This truly unique building embodies the surrounding nature that it calls home with a Diamond shaped loft. The space You will be greeted by the host's farm upon entry, with views of the gardens, greenhouse and wild flowers as far as the eye can see. Guests will be provided with farm fresh eggs and in season produce when available. This one of a kind bunkie has unique characteristics with the sleeping space in a "diamond" shaped loft and the living space underneath in the "rough rock", this unconventional space exudes originality and creativity. Guests will feel as though they have an entire provincial park to themselves. This gives guests an opportunity to be as quiet for birding as possible or allows guests to listen to music without bothering a neighbour - you are free to decide how you want to spend your trip! The Diamond in the Rough bunkie is located near the forest access, which is a 10 minute walk through rolling fields. Hosts can provide 1 ride in and 1 ride out if need be as this accommodation is not car accessible. We would encourage those that are able to walk to the Diamond to do so, with the help of a wagon or if your gear is packable. We can also transport your gear in for you. This accommodation can be accessed by foot, bike, cross country skis or snow shoes on the groomed trail during the winter months. The Diamond is an off grid accommodation and does not have a fridge, there is a cooler with ice in an outdoor bear box and plenty of cupboard space in the kitchen area. In the kitchen space there is running cold water as well as a propane stove top. You can cook and play right in the yard of the Diamond in the Rough! Enjoy your dinner and drinks outside in the screen porch or by the fire, steps away from the unique tiny home. The diamond shaped loft features guest's sleeping space, with a queen size bed and a panoramic view of the surrounding forest. If you have children the couch turns into a small double bed, please let us know if you are planning on having 4 people stay. If you are wondering where the bathroom is, it's close by and is a clean and comfortable outhouse. This is designated to the Diamond guests only. There is no shower on site, but during the summer months a park pass to Samuel de Champlain Park is provided, which gives access to showers, laundry as well as beach and hiking trails. Guests have endless access to true north nature at Peddler's Passage. The forest has over 10 km of marked hiking trails, map included! Also featured is 5 beaver ponds with benches and multiple view points for plenty of wildlife sitings. This is a birders paradise! The wetland complex on the property provides ample opportunity for sightings. Bring your binoculars! Within the forest you will find a recreation area, complete with dart board and outdoor pool table for a fun afternoon! In time, our goal will be to provide guests with food baskets included in the stay. We are at the beginning of our hosting journey and by booking with us you allow us to get one step closer to accomplishing this goal. If you feel the need to leave the property, Calvin Township has many breath taking sights, including the scenic views of the autumn leaves, the Eau Claire Gorge and Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park, all just minutes away. If you are into outdoor adventures this is the place for you! About 5 minutes down the road Algonquin North Wilderness Outfitters provides canoe rentals so you can explore historical and breathtaking sights like the Ottawa River, Amable Du Fond River, Pimisi Bay and Talon Chutes along the Mattawa River and the north end of Algonquin Provincial Park (Kiosk Lake and Brain Lake access points) just to name a few. Winter activities are plentiful as well at Peddler's Passage. Our trails are groomed providing you with the opportunity to snow shoe and cross country ski. Calvin Township has a hockey rink located on Peddler's Dr which is accessible during the day or at night to anyone living or staying in the area.
