The Area The Castelli Romani is a well known region to the south east of Rome. Nestled in the hills overlooking Rome, this group of towns came to prominence during the Renaissance when noblemen and cardinals alike decided to build magnificent and opulent homes here. Today, it is still a favourite weekend destination for Italians lured out of Rome by the wonderful restaurants and spectacular countryside. The area is famous for its olive oil production and also wine. Genzano has several vineyards selling wine and olive oil direct. For mountain biking, walking or horse riding enthusiasts, an “agriturismo” is a 10 minute drive away from the villa combining all 3 of these facilities. In addition to this, a further 5 minutes drive away are 3 riding schools and an Olympic show jumping and cross country equestrian school. There are many wonderful medieval towns to discover in the region. The famous gardens of Ninfa and the amazing water gardens of Tivoli are within easy reach as are the Roman Villas of “Adriana” and “Villa d’ Este”. At Torvianica is the wonderful “Zoo Marine” park. For sun worshippers, the beaches of Anzio, Nettuno and Sabaudia are worth visiting and for the more adventurous, the stunning Amalfi Coast is a 3 hour journey by car, offering amazing views of Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. There are also many wonderful festivals including the chestnut festival at Rocca di Papa, the strawberry festival in Nemi, the flower festival in Genzano and the legendary wine festival at Marino. Winter skiing is on offer at Campo Felice, Ovindoli and Terminillo. All year round there are shopping outlets with designer shops, weekly markets and for those interested in golf, several top quality courses in the area. Registration Details IT058111C2F2JMHOHC
