Casa di Castagno – (Chestnut House) is a unique house located in the heart of the picturesque Medieval hilltop town of Motovun (Montona in Italian). Over a hundred years old, this historic house has been architecturally renovated with great detail, combining original features of the house with locally sourced industrial and timber elements. This spacious yet cozy abode is only a minute stroll from bars and restaurants making it a perfect choice for your vacation. The space It is a four storey villa and the views change with each level. A comfortable seating area right next to the window and hundred-year-old doors on the ground floor provide an unique experience of locals' life and unhindered communication with the city and its cobbled streets. From the bedrooms and ensuits on the first and second floor the view climbs the authentic shutters of the surrounding houses and the nearby church of St. Anthony of Padua from the 15th century. The top floor offers a larger kitchen, dining and living space with magnificent views of the surrounding valley of the Mirna River with its vineyards, villages, rolling hills and olive groves. On the ground floor you can find the laundry room, washing machine and dryer. On the first floor is a spacious bedroom with two single beds that can be converted to a queen bed with a large ensuite bathroom. The bedroom on the second floor has a queen bed with trundel bed for kids and also an adjoining ensuite. Both bedrooms have comfortable reading areas with beautiful views of the ancient medieval streets and houses of the old town. On the top floor is a fully equipped summer ‘konoba’ (kitchen), with oven a, six person dining table and living area with TV. The three upper levels all have air conditioning which is not needed on ground floor since the old, stone walls keep it nice and cool. Enjoy your first morning coffee or drink a glass of wine with a stunning view from the top floor. The whole house is at your disposal! Guest access After passing through the Town gates, continue down the street next to bars and restaurants. From there you are only a minute walk away from the Casa di Castagno on Borgo Street, which you will easily recognise by the fuchsia pink metal shutters on the ground floor. To insure free guest parking please provide me at least two days prior to arrival your vehicle registration plate number so we can register your vehicle for free parking. When you first arrive inform parking staff that you are staying in our house Borgo 31. It would be helpful if you show them your reservation. Parking is located below the cemetery. Please be aware that from that point the old town is not accessible with your car .. so from there you have to walk your way up to the house. (please check directions on the map) Please view maps provided - for parking location and walk to the house. Other things to note Motovun is a small walled town built on a 277m hill in the Mirna River Valley. With its breathtaking views and historic core, it is is one of the most captivating towns of the Istrian peninsula. Take time to explore the charming cobblestone streets, immerse yourself in its history at the museum at the Hotel Kastel or the centerpiece Renaissance Church of St Stephen, sample wines from some of Croatia’s best vineyards or famous Istra truffles.
