It is from the vineyards-which stretch between the Taro River Park and the Natural Park of the Carrega Woods-that Monte delle Vigne wines are born, with a unique and unmistakable character. Agriculture that is particularly attentive to preserving nature: this is the element that characterizes the daily work of the winery. Guatelli Museum " I would like a museum from the extreme yesterday to the extreme tomorrow" - Ettore Guatelli Among the many definitions he used to describe the collection named after him, Ettore Guatelli often resorted to that of "museum of the obvious" or "museum of the everyday." The objects he recovered and exhibited were in fact not rare or precious pieces like those in many traditional museums, but were things of common use, which still retain the imprint of those who, using them daily, consumed them to the point of making them part of themselves. Hammers, tongs, shovels, scissors, barrels, and pestles cover the walls following simple geometric patterns, fill the furniture and shelves of this museum, creating a scenographic effect charged with visual suggestions and able to evoke, through an unprecedented museographic language free from realistic intentions, daily gestures of peasant life. Tomato Museum Of American origin, the tomato has found fertile soil right in the province of Parma, starting as early as the second half of the 19th century. And the area has not limited itself to cultivation, it has also turned to processing, so much so that today, all over the world, it exports not only tomato products but also technology for the canning industry. The museum's headquarters is located inside the Corte di Giarola in the municipality of Collecchio, in an agro-processing center dating back to medieval times. Home to a tomato canning industry for the first sixty years of the 20th century, today it is also the center of the Taro Regional River Park. The exhibit is organized into seven thematic sections. Closing the tour is the culture of the 'Tomato World' with advertisements, quotations, paintings, sculptures and recipes based on tomatoes, all the way to gastronomy, with its marriage with pasta and pizza. Pasta Museum The museum is located inside the Corte di Giarola, in the municipality of Collecchio, in an agro-processing center dating back to medieval times. Home to a tomato canning industry for the first sixty years of the twentieth century, today it is also the center of the Taro Regional River Park. Dried durum wheat semolina pasta, of Middle Eastern origin, found its home in Italy, developing over the centuries in different areas of the country: in Sicily, Liguria, Naples, Bologna and throughout Emilia. In the nineteenth century, Barilla, now a world leader in the industry, began operations in Parma, which was instrumental in the creation of the dedicated museum. The exhibit is organized into ten sections. An overview of pasta in art and culture-from paintings to stamps-closes the rich exhibition itinerary. Parmesan Cheese Museum The Parmigiano Reggiano Museum is located in the historic 19th-century Casello that stands in the shadow of the Rocca Meli-Lupi fortress in Soragna, in the province of Parma, just a short walk from the town square, in an area rich in castles and Verdian memories, natural oases and historic parks of rare beauty and charm, and dense and inimitable flavors along the "Culatello Road." Parmigiano Reggiano is the prestigious Italian cheese, known and appreciated all over the world, which boasts ancient origins. The Castellazzi Court, home of the Parmigiano Museum, consists of the farmhouse with barn and hayloft and the precious circular cheese factory with a colonnade, where the tools and utensils used in the processing of the King of Cheeses are on display. More than 120 objects, dating from the 1800s to the first half of the 20th century, and a hundred or so period images, drawings and photos illustrate, inside a building used for centuries for cheese production, the evolution of milk processing techniques, the stages of maturing and marketing, and the fundamental role of the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium in protecting quality. And finally, the Museum Shop where it is possible to taste the unsurpassed product. For gourmets and connoisseurs of good food, in fact, Parmigiano lends itself to being savored on any occasion, with any dish and in combination with the finest dishes offered by local restaurants. Parma Ham Museum In a fertile land, bordered to the north by the Po and to the south by the Apennines, and included between the valleys of the Enza and Stirone rivers, pig breeding developed from the earliest times, favored by the vast expanses of woodland and the presence of oaks, and with them, acorns. Herds of pigs grazed in vast wooded areas and the populations of Celtic origin, settled here, developed the "technologies" necessary for the use of their meat and its preservation, thanks in part to the springs and saltwater wells of Salsomaggiore and Rivalta. Once again, the characteristics of the territory played a fundamental role, and it is here that the Parma Ham Museum is located today: in Langhirano, which is the recognized capital of ham, in the fully restored complex of the former Foro Boario, splendid early 20th-century rural architecture historically used for livestock trading. The exhibit is organized into eight sections. Ideally concluding the visit is a tasting at the Museum's Prosciutteria and store of the area's excellent products. Salami Museum The Felino Salami Museum bears witness to the privileged relationship established over time between the unique product we know and its territory of origin. Felino thus pays tribute to its most beloved "son," whose history is finally at a worthy home in the magnificent 18th-century rooms of the Felino castle cellars. The Museum represents an opportunity to make known and appreciate not simply the essence of what has been called the prince of salamis, but the territory and community of which it is an expression, starting with the quality of the raw materials and ending with the wisdom of the hands that continue to work it. The effort sustained to realize the Museum project fully corresponds to the desire to offer a new stop among the most notable along the road of ham and wines of the hills to the attention of experts, curious people and tourists. Culatello Museum The Antica Corte Pallavicina di Polesine complex stands out in a glimpse of Bassa dominated by the sound of the Great River, there where fog is an essential ingredient of taste. The museum tour presents, one after the other, the protagonists of the Culatello story. The first is the territory: the environment, the poplar groves, and the Po are the protagonists of a narrative that leads up to the room centered on the figure of the pig, domesticated by man in ancient times, with insights into the black pig typical of the Parma area and its recovery, symbolism and the image of a creature so closely linked to man that it is chosen to evoke his vices and virtues. In the Hosteria, where the tasting closes the itinerary dedicated to the King of Salumi. VILLA MONTICELLO & COUNTRY WALKS Route near the Pomodoro Museum, a pleasant walk toward the river 1 - The ancient entrance to the Corte di Giarola with the centuries-old hackberry tree Advancing along the path, a few meters after the Church of San Nicomede, the visitor encounters three large hackberry trees. One in particular is the silent guardian of the ancient access to the Corte di Giarola, the one through which pilgrims passed when they found refreshment here during their journey along the Via Francigena. 2 - The Catalog Field of ancient fruit varieties located west of the Corte, toward the riverbed of the Taro River. On the right, almost hidden by hazel and black elder shrubs, a sparse forest appears with some varieties of ancient fruit trees. On the bend, the ruins of the old Mill serving the Court of Giarola can also be seen. 3 - The sluice gates along the Naviglio Taro canal. Continuing along the path, we come to a stilling basin of the Naviglio Taro Canal: here a system of sluice gates lets water for irrigation use pass to the fields, or returns it to the river. 4 - Flora and fauna of special interest in the Taro River bed. Those curious to see the river and do some birdwatching can get to the riverbed right away by following the short detour on the right that runs along the spillway. In the riverbed, near the banks, you will be greeted by white willows, black poplars and black alders. 5 - Gabions once erected to counter erosion of the riverbank, now shrouded in riparian forest vegetation The trail enters the forest in the direction of Oppiano Taro and remains under the tree canopy for a long time, skirting the winding path of the Taro Naviglio canal. Among the most representative trees: elms, black poplars and white poplars, hazelnut trees. All around a myriad of woodland bird songs: blackcaps, nightingales, titmice, woodpeckers. Halfway along, ancient hydraulic artifacts are still visible: gabions, used to counteract the erosive action of water. 6 - The Sea Buckthorn, with its grayish leaves and characteristic orange fruits, visible in the clearing near Oppiano Upon reaching Oppiano Taro, guided by the tall church bell tower, one finds oneself in a large clearing surrounded by shrubs of dog rose, hawthorn and, above all, sea buckthorn, with its grayish leaves and characteristic orange fruits very rich in vitamin C. 7 - The bell tower of Oppiano church visible above the vegetation. Proceeding further along the path, the herb hill emerges on the left, and scattered among the blades of grass are small butterfly-feeding plants: bulbous, wild carrot, centaurea, and aristolochia.
