Enjoy this private and sunny basement apartment and garden patio- a great home base after being out during the day. Located close to I-270, two hospitals, AstraZeneca, NIST, retail areas such as RIO, outlets, Bethesda, and in walking distance to a lake at Great Seneca Park State Park. The DC Metro train is 15 minutes away. The studio (1 queen bed) comes equipped to comfortably host a couple sightseeing or a traveling professional. Please read FULL description before booking. The space This private apartment with separate entrance is in the basement of the hosts' home, thus hosts are available to quickly assist guests with needs or allow guests to borrow items upon request. This space is best for a working professional or couple who will be out during the day, OR a very easy going person that doesn't mind the everyday noises or occasional contact outdoors with the host family. Guests will see little children playing in the yard. If you plan to spend significant time at the apartment, please be aware that day-to-day family activities will be happening around you. There is a SMALL couch- it is not big enough for an adult to sleep on comfortably. This may NOT be the best place for you if: -You are a light or sensitive sleeper -Plan to sleep in past 7am (end of quiet hours). As the unit is below our kitchen, guests should be prepared to hear footsteps above. If you plan to be awake by 7/7:30, then there should be no issues. -Have a DOG ALLERGY. This unit is pet friendly- even after cleaning, irritants can sometimes remain. -You like very specific temperatures (i.e. very warm in winter and very cool in summer) and prefer individual climate control . The A/C and heat are controlled on the main level of our home, and thus you will need to ask us to adjust it (which we are happy to do within reasonable temperatures for the season). We offer a fan in the summer and heater in the winter for guests' customization. Pets and respectful dog owners are welcome. We require guests bring blankets to cover the couch and bed. Please include your pet(s) on the reservation. The fenced yard backs up to a private wooded area. Surrounding neighbors are quiet and respectful. Guest access Private entrance and access to the full apartment. Shared access to laundry room and backyard. Guests may see hosts maintaining yard and small children playing in the yard/patio occasionally but will try to give notice when doing so while guest is home. There are blackout curtains in the apartment for guests' privacy. Hosts may request access to laundry room if needed, with advanced permission from guest. Guests can request kitchen tools, grill utensils or other appliances, vacuum and mop, or gym equipment from hosts. Guests are welcome to use the fire pit and grill, and turn on the patio lights over the grill. Other things to note This unit is in the basement of our 3-level home and runs naturally cooler all year than any other floor of the home. The THERMOSTAT is located on the MAIN LEVEL of our home, and guests can request us to make slight adjustments if uncomfortable. We provide a fan for the summer and heater and blankets for the winter, for guests to customize the basement temperatures. We keep our home at a very reasonable temperature of 68-70 in winter and 72 in summer. If you have specific preferences for a VERY COOL space in summer or VERY WARM space in winter, we recommend you book a place where you have full control over the temperatures. HEAT IN THE WINTER: The unit has one heater (and 3-4 extra blankets) and can only power that heater. The single heater is appropriate for the square footage. Some guests are very sensitive to cold. If this describes you, then this place is probably not a good fit for you from November - March.
